Install 2014.10 on 2 gps units

I've got 2 gps unit (both Zumo 550's). I have 2 separate lifetime map updates (North America), 1 for each. I have downloaded 2014.10 update to my PC (using MyMaps site on the Garmin web site for one of the units), used MapInstall to load the news maps to that unit.

I then used MapInstall to load the maps again to the other unit. That worked but the maps on the 2nd unit are not unlocked and I can't figure out how to unlock them.

Do I have to download the 2014.10 maps again to the 2nd unit?? Sure seems to be a waste of time.

Yes you have d/l it for the second unit. You cannot use the same map unlock code for both units. Each unit has its own. Use webupdater or garmin express.
This is the simplified answer.

I'm sure Speed2 mean GarminMapUpdater:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={60f574f0-602d-11e2-f3fb-000000000000}

Garmin Map Updater PC:
http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

Garmin Map Updater Mac:
http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.dmg

need to run the whole process again

I assume Ed Y downloaded the map for the first unit then saved the map in the computer as well so he can update the second unit without waiting for the long re-download process. --- No such luck.

There is no short cuts other than waiting through the download process on each and every unit you want to update the map.

The short answer is

The short answer is yes.....you have to download the maps a second time for the second gps.

check the "leave installation files on computer" option

For your next update with the Mapupdater, be sure to check the "leave installation files on computer" option. This will shorten the download time for the second installation greatly, as it will download only the additional files needed for the second installation.

I used garmin express to

I used garmin express to update both my units the second one used the first download but added the part of the map my first one didn't use so the second one was way faster. a 1450 and 2597

Steve

I did save the download

I did save the download files on the 1st one. Since the zumo 550 won't hold all NT North America maps in internal memory, I put all the maps on the SD card and PC with the 1st unit. I decided to go ahead and use MapUpdater (used that on the 1st one) on the 2nd unit. However, I selected the smallest segment I could find and told Mapupdater to load to the device. Ran pretty quick. When that was done, I used MapInstall to install all of North America to the SD card on the 2nd unit, then deleted the gmapprom.img from the internal memory on the unit.

Worked real good, for a change.

Glad you got it working Ed!

Glad you got it working. I, too, update multiple GPS's ... my wife asks me "why." I tell her, "Because I can."

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.

I have 2 to update

Glad to see I won't have to d/l twice. I don't have highspeed.
