Themes

I would think that it is just like the map, keyed to one unit.
Did you use Garmin MapUpdater to see if there are any new themes for your unit? You are asking about models that support them so they should be there.

I don't use themes, or I don't know if I do, and I think I have noticed them in MauUpdater.

Maybe someone that knows something about them will jump in. I am just guessing.

I think Narvick is talking about user modified custom theme files that could be shared with other users ... like we do with POI files.

I edited themes and transferred them between my 2465(TW) and 2495(US), no problems.

Themes are very small, ~1KB, xml files. They can be edited with any text or xml editors.

I modify my own Map Themes to my liking and have shared them with others as well. Once you figure out the basic structure (xml) and the associated color values, they are quite easy to modify.

I've personally found the most annoying aspect of the whole process is not the editing itself but the constant nuvi safely eject/unplug/power on/wait for nuvi to boot/select the map theme (rinse and repeat) process to check on what you've done.

I see that others say that they can be shared but I think you were asking "How" to share them, and "Where" to get them.

Maybe someone will see this and tell "How to share map themes.

Also, maybe someone will have some to share with you.

Just keep this thread going by posting to it now and then and sooner or later someone will see it that knows "how", and "where" to get shared ones.

Try the contact form and run it by them http://www.poi-factory.com/about and see if they will post them like they do for the bmp files.

Yes, I was asking whether or not Theme files (.kmtf) were a type of thing can be shared just like poi files.
I have a custom made theme or 2 that I have made and just didn't know if there was any way to share them.

I know that themes are not that difficult to modify, but it can be a little time consuming and I'm sure there are many people who either a) aren't comfortable in doing it and/or b) don't have the time or patience to do so. I completely agree with DorkusNimrod on how annoying it is to connect/disconnect the GPS from the computer just to see the theme progress.

This all started because I find literally ALL of the themes available to be difficult to see (at least on my 3760) and to be blunt, some are quite ugly (looking at you Suomi and Navigon). Some themes also lose functionality in their odd color/border choices. I wanted to make a theme that was more crisp, easier to see, and appealing. So I made one, and was just curious if there was a way to share it in case anyone had any interest.

interested in user created themes if they are OK to share. I am colorblind and most themes on my 2797 are not ideal for me.

I may have to spend some time learning how to edit them and see what I can come up with. From my past experience with color mine would have a very narrow audience for sure.

I think a theme geared towards colorblindness is a great thing to share. It certainly isn't something that any theme seems to cater to.
