After I installed the new map on my nuvi 750 the touch screen is unresponsive. It will not even do a hard reset.

Battery Condition?

Is your battery charged?
Try putting the Nuvi in your vehicle using the 12V power chord and let us know what happens.

thanks

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll hold off on updating my 750 until this gets cleared up. It's strange that a simple map change (rather than an OS update) would cause such a problem. You could try hooking the unit up to the computer and blowing away the new maps, and maybe load other maps via SD card.

I don't think it's the update...

I've updated 2 units with no problems.

A-Okay

My Nuvi 1450 Updated with no problem......runs good, screen touches responsive. No problems so far.

No problem after updating my Garmin Nuvi 3590LM with the latest maps. Touch screen works fine. Must be a Nuvi 750 specific issue.

As muell9k suggests, my bet is a dead battery. The OP has yet to respond to our suggestions in this thread with results, clarification, or further questions. My 750 update to SD worked well ( with GarminMapUpdater, not Garmin Express.)

i agree

The OP states it's a 750 which is quite old in model terms. I believe the XX5 models started coming out in 2009 so that says it 4 years old at least.

Checking further, I see PCMAG reviewed the 755 in Sept '08 so that says they are 2009 models, so it is more than likely a battery problem.

CraigW is right, unless alrom45 (OP) replies with more details we are only speculating what the issue is.
It is possible his touchscreen has gone bad and just a coincidence it happened after a map update.
In troubleshooting, we need to follow the basic steps first.
Checking the battery and doing a hard reset would be my first choices. Keep in mind, a map update usually triggers a firmware update if the unit needs one, so that too could be a possible cause. That possibility would be low on my list since I'm confident his old 750 has the latest available firmware.

The worst-case scenario is a weak battery causing a system shutdown midway through the process of updating firmware (or possibly a map update). That's why there's a warning to make sure the battery is fully charged before starting a GPS update.

Terminal worse

If that was the case, the unit is probably totally bricked. Let's hope it was during a map update or something else.

No Go!

Looks like my 750 hit the end of the road.

Battery seems to be OK. I would like to do a hard reset but the touch screen wouldn't let me.
When I plug it into the car it boots up and loads to main menu. As the car moves it goes into map mode but the touch screen doesn't respond at all. At least it lets me know how fast I am driving.

Any ideas or should I say sleep well my trusted friend after 5 years you can go to your great reward.

OLder?

I have no idea if my 855 is older than a 750, but all in all it is my back-up for a sometimes unreliable 3790 and the 855 is quite reliable as well as fully updated.

The 3790 failed me a year ago when I was 1,500 miles from home and no paper map while in unfamiliar territory.

Since then I carry the 855 along on my yearly fall drive into Mexico and return in the spring, just in case.

Did you try

Did you try to hook up the USB cable to computer?

Maybe you can see your unit and reinstall a backup, if you did one.

Older?

Garmin Nuvi Model History

The nuvi 750 was released in August 2007, the nuvi 855 in March 2009. So in terms of the model series, the 750 is considerably older than the 855.

As for the problem that alrom45 is having, it could be a hardware failure on the touch screen and it may just be a coincidence that it happened at the same time as a map/software update. I know it sounds unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

Touch Screen Unresponsive

I uploaded the new maps on my 3790 checked for firmware updates and there were none. This last weekend my touch screen stopped responding. Battery is charged when it comes on it shows the where to and map - touch map and nothing happens, touch anything on the screen and nothing happens. Map will display after about 5 minutes and seems to work but there is no response from the touch screen. I have a 2557 that I was going to update but I think I will wait and see what happens here. Called Garmin - they had not heard of this - really no help.

Sorry to hear that, it does appear your touchscreen is malfuntioning. It probably does not make economical sense, but you can have it repaired if you highly treasure that model. You can pick up a far newer model with lifetime maps for about double the amount to repair your 750.

If you would like to repair it, you can send it to Jim who is a member of this forum for repair.
The cost would be 45.00 plus 6.51, return shipping, plus the cost of shipping to him in Pennsylvania.
So you can figure about $58.00.
