Garmin vs. Rand McNally

Shopping for a new GPS unit. Want the 7" screen with Lifetime Maps and Traffic. Also want to be able to download POI files from this site. I know the Garmin will download - does the RVND 7720 take downloads also?
If you were buying -- which unit would be top choice?

Thanks !!

A quick search

Rand McNally uses the same CSV format as Garmin, so you can download any of the CSV files to use with your GPS.

The download button used to be labeled "Garmin CSV", but today I changed it to "CSV". Hopefully this will eleminate some confusion for non-Garmin GPS users.

I like Garmin, never had a Rand. That's just an opinion of one.
Isn't the Garmin less expensive than the Rand?

Rand McNally makes a gps? Wow, they should have been out of business for sure long ago. I used to always keep one of their atlases in my car, although truth be told, they never really had enough detail to be very useful....

Wow, I agree. I still have one of their Atlas's in the closet but a few years ago, the font size shrunk enough to require a magnifying glass (LOL). It's not for 50+ year old eyes without glasses.

With the younger set using smart phones and map apps, you'd think Rand McNally would enter THAT business.

That said, it's interesting to see them in the GPS business. No sign of them in the iTunes store though.

I am finding that my iPhone app (Google Maps) works well for me for local trips if needed but my Garmin is better suited for longer trips due to the speed limits and traffic capabilities.

It's clear to me that if Google Maps continues to evolve at the present rate, Garmin is in for a run for their money.
