Traffic provider wrong (after Garmin Express update)

Somehow,my Garmin Nuvi 265WT downloaded the wrong traffic provider software on a previous update through the Garmin Express updater.I now have the Michelin French software in my unit instead of the US provider Is there any way to get rid of the French software and download the proper US version ?
Garmin tech support is useless.
Thanks

this time run the Garmin WebUpdater software instead

Connect the unit again but this time run the Garmin WebUpdater software instead and see if it corrects the problem.

WebUpdater vs mapupdater?

Is WebUpdater software the same as mapupdater? Thanks.

See

See http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp for web updater. Make sure to go to next page for additional updates.

Webupdater

Ran webuodater. Did not correct the problem.Garmin tech support is saying that the GTM-25 traffic receiver/charger that I purchased to replace my defective one is causing the European map software to display. They are claiming that the GTM-25 is a European model, not NA version.I thought the traffic provider software was a function of the Garmin unit, not the GTM 25 .

Garmin is correct

The traffic receivers are localized. The providers that the receiver is authorized to access is hard-coded in the receiver. You would need to subscribe to the local providers when you take the receiver out of its authorized location(s). The traffic receivers come with my Taiwanese versions of 1370 (GTM25) and 2465 (GTM35) do not work in the U.S. without paid subscriptions.

Some regions do provide free traffic though.

Where did you buy it at?

Traffic provider wrong

My Nuvi 265WT worked well receiving NA traffic updates for several years. In the traffic settings, the software present in the Nuvi always displayed as the NA provider. Eventually, the receipt of traffic updates became intermittent.About 2 months ago,I updated the software through the web updater. After that update occurred,I stopped receiving traffic updates altogether.
I contacted Garmin tech support. They claimed that my GTM-25 receiver was defective. I purchased a new one through E-bay.
After plugging in the new GTM-25,the traffic icon will now again display in the settings.
However, the traffic provider is now listed as Michelin (FR),which is the European provider.Garmin is claiming that this is a function of a European GTM-25. I believe it was caused by an improper software download from the Garmin webupdater. The company I purchased the new GTM-25 from claims that it is fine.Therein lies the impasse

Ebay will stand behind it if the unit is not as advertised

Garmin Express and WebUpdater would have no effect on the traffic receivers traffic subscriptions. Those programs cannot add or change the receivers installed subscriptions. It appears that the seller is correct and it is a functioning traffic receiver the problem is that the receiver has a European traffic subscription and not a NA subscription. You cannot change or delete installed subscriptions, only add additional ones.

I think that Garmin is giving you the straight scoop and the seller either doesn't know what subscription it had or will not admit it. The software that controls what traffic service you get is in the traffic receiver itself and the GPS unit software has nothing to do with the subscription. Thats what makes it either have a European subscription or US subscription version. The NA and European subscriptions are different and cannot be used in both areas.

Was the receiver you bought brand new or used? A lot of people that buy these things on ebay have problems with the unit being defective or not the same as what was advertised. Ebay will stand behind it if the unit is not as advertised if you file a claim. Look back at the auction and carefully read the sellers description.

The other option is to purchase a US lifetime traffic subscription for the receiver then you will have both areas covered. Traffic receivers can have multiple subscriptions and will automatically switch to the best appropriate one based on where it is being used.

Or get a new GTM25 with lifetime NA traffic, ~$40

One more option is to buy a new GTM25 with Lifetime NA traffic from places such as Amazon for ~$40. It is cheaper then a lifetime traffic subscription.

The OP can always try to get his/her money back for the one that he/she has already purchased.

GTM-25

I purchased a new GTM-25 from a company off of E-bay.It was a Chinese company and the unit came directly from China. It was sold as having a NA subscription.
The Chinese company will only offer me a $5.00 if I return it to them.
I paid $20.00 for the GTM-25.

Start a claim for misrepresentation with ebay

Start a claim for misrepresentation with ebay based on the description as having NA subscription and what it came with was European which makes it useless here. The unit is probably a knock off with a pirate subscription for $20 shipped from China.

I did one recently with a company that sent me a battery that would not take a charge. They ignored my emails but after I filed the claim with ebay they refunded my money immediately.

A lot of the sellers just ignore complaints because most people will not bother to actually file a claim.

You don't have subscription at all or it expired? I don't know how it works now, but before you can buy traffic receiver with one month (or year) "trial" subscription. After it expired you could buy extension for next period or lifetime version, eventually use free traffic. For $20 it's possible you bought just receiver with trial or free subscription.

GTM-25

After I threatened to file a complaint with E bay,the Chinese company agreed to refund my purchase price, plus postage back to China.
Thanks for your assistance.
I will attempt to buy another GTM-25 with a NA provider included.
Amazon should be a more reliable provider.

GTM-25

My original GTM-25 that came with my 265WT Nuvi contained a lifetime NA subscription. It is now defective.
My original question was posed to try to determine whether the NA subscription software was stored in the GTM-25,or the 265WT Nuvi itself.
Evidently, the subscription is stored in the GTM-25.
The GTM-25 that I purchased contained a European subscription, making it useless in the USA.
