Custom Avoidance in Basecamp

As a result of a forthcoming Road Closure to my cottage, I decided to play with Basecamp and enter a Custom Avoidance, to find a new route.

I knew I could do this with Mapsource and but for the life of me, I could not find anyway of doing this in Basecamp. I put avoidance in the Help search and nothing comes up. I played with Routing Options and I could find nothing.

In Mapsource, there were Advanced Avoidance options, where you could set up a custom avoidance. When I tried that with Mapsource, it did actually create a new route, exactly as I would have chosen myself.

Am I missing something, or is Basecamp just too plain simple to do this?

Basecamp doesn't support it

Basecamp doesn't support it, but I just put the road avoidance in the GPS itself.

I find it's easier to sort out a new route, on the PC first, since you get a full picture and can easily add or remove waypoints. I had a NUVI 350 previously and it did not support Custom Avoidance, but my NUVI2555 does.

a road on the way to our cottage is going to be closed in a few weeks and I wanted to sort out the best routing ahead of time. I used Cusom Avoidance in Mapsource and got a basic route, and then fine tuned it, to make an easier drive.

The lack of Custom Avoidance in Basecamp, is disappointing. Garmin has taken a backward step on this one.

BaseCamp

I find that BaseCamp and MapSource have the same features in regard to your route...and custom routes.

To create a custom route...just for one route...create the route and then open it to make the changes to "play with the options'

If the route is created, you can click on the route and that will open the route properties...then you can open the "route options tab" and see the same window as in MapSource... I would think you would use the Time and Date Closure Avoidance and other options for a custom route or profile for just this route.

I hope this helps...
