Entering info on my Garmin 265W

Presently in Florida and heading back to Canada, need info on how to get to Interstate without having to enter a street address. Also, where do I find "fastest way" on my Garmin? thanks

To set fastest time touch

To set fastest time touch tools, settings, navigation then route preference. From there you can set faster time. Also on the right of route preference you can set the avoidance's you want.

If you put the finial destination address into the gps,Once you hit go, just touch the very top(green bar)and it will show step by step turns.

Welcome to The Factory.

Owners manuals are not included with Garmin nuvis and you probably want to have a copy. Look here:

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/2675_OwnersManual.pdf

My answers are:

1) If in Florida looking to go to Canada, you will be directed to the Interstate for sure if you've selected Faster Time.

2) To select Faster Time, it can be found by tapping Tools/Settings/Navigation, then Route Preference where you may be given choices of Faster Time, Shorter Distance or Off Road. Be sure that your nuvi is set for Automobile use (not Bicycle, Pedestrian or anything else): Tap Tools/Settings/System and look to Usage Mode.

3) To start your trip and plan a route, you should have the option of tapping Whereto/Cities/ChangeStateProvince, select your province, then select a city in that province. (When you get near your final destination, you can recreate a new route with the final destination to be an address.)

4) On Day 2, 3, etc of your trip, you can just tap WhereTo/RecentlyFound, then tap your city again.

5) Make sure your Avoidances do not include Tolls or Ferries in case you have a Tollway, Toll bridge or ferry that will be part of your intended route (tap Tools/Settings/Navigation/Avoidances, then check to see what's to be avoided--making sure that if you have a Down Arrow, you tap it as needed to see all the potential Avoidances).

Have a safe trip.

Just to add some more info.I have the 265 and it will not do routes. What I do is put in the favorites certain via points. I use them to force a route other then the one gave by the gps. Using Google maps and if you are looking for I-95 https://maps.google.com/maps?q=35.539825,-78.252319&num=1&t=... and if you right click on any place on I-95 and click whats here. The coordinates will show in the search box at top. Same for I-4 see https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Interstate+4,+Orlando,+FL&hl=... .Put these coordinates in your favorites on the gps so you can force a route to your preference.

If you now look on the left of the screen for Google Maps once you get the coordinates you want. You will see more click on it and select send. Now connect the gps to the computer .Select gps and then click send and it will put it into the favorites on the gps. Name so you can find it quickly .

To do via points select the where to and set your route. Once selected and the calculation is done. Select where to again and go to favorites and select one of the locations you want as a via point. Once selected it will ask you if you want to add as a via point. Note the 265 has a undocumented feature. Manual states only one via point per route. It can do many more then what the manual says. I have put in as many as 5. Not sure how many total it can do.

Thank you very much greatly

Thank you very much greatly appreciated....

Hints

I download the rest stop POI's and save the cheapest gas stations along the way before I leave. Then I just put my destination as the next gas station I think I will use, or a meal stop.

I don't need to know how many hours my total multi-day trip will take.

Rest stop poi as via points.

Brilliant!

I've also used 5 vias + the destination without a problem smile
