Heads-up on Garmin Europe maps

Thought that I should give everyone a little warning if you are planning on buying the Europe maps DVD. There seems to be a problem at Garmin that rejects the product code and prevents you from loading the maps. Dealt with their support for over a half hour and the finally said that they were having problems at their end and should have it resolved sometime in May. I bought it for my April trip, so am returning it to Amazon. Apparently others have had the same problem. You can see our reviews on the Amazon site.

Also note that the date on the current Europe map is May 2012 (2013.10) so even if I would keep it another version would be out about the same time the older version would be functioning.

Why not just download it from Garmin?

CN Europe

Latest version of City Navigator Europe is 2013.40. Update is ready to download for couple of weeks now. Version 2013.10 is about year old by now.

I've been using...

a 2010 SD card since then. Nothing changes there! Get an old SD card and have fun. I even lent this to a friend that went to Germany last August, and he couldn't thank me enough...don't put yourself through all that!!!

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but it has been reported at forums.garmin.com that the City Navigator Europe 2013.40 map has been withdrawn until May because it is "faulty" (https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?35470-Withdrawal-of...). Apparently users are being advised to reinstall 2013.30.

Bought the DVD version so I could get lifetime updates as we plan to do quite a bit of traveling now that I am retired. I probably could buy a SD card which I do not think needs to be registered as it is not tied to the device, but you can not updated them.

Well, you can get the lifetime updates via Garmin as well. Just go to MyGarmin.

Typically, the downloadable products are not eligible for the Lifetime Updates, are they?

A few years ago when I got my 775T, that's where I bought mine from. Perhaps it has changed? If so, I wasn't aware of it.

Just the DVDs

According to the Garmin web site only the DVD is eligible for the lifetime updates. Not the SD nor downloads. That is why I chose that option.

Hmm

I guess they had to do something with those thousands of DVD's...

If the 2013.40 EU maps were taken off the site, maybe try for the 2013.30 maps before you send it back to Amazon.

It is already on its way back to Amazon. All of the Europe maps (DVDs, SDs, and downloads) have been removed from the Garmin web site for sale until May 1 (so they say). Who knows if they will work after ththen?

What I am leaning to is to installing the free routable open street maps that I saw in another posting the other day.

I bought the DVD several years ago. I now have a new Nuvi.....Wish I knew then what I know now....Would have the SD card...No update is better than no Europe maps....

Europe maps

I am heading to Europe this summer and if I can not have the new maps I will use the one I have. I have to be a bit more aware but things do not change that drastic.

mistery of EU 2013.4 maps solved

Just get Email from Garmin about reasons to remove CN EU 2013.4. In short: Wrong routing data on some roads in Netherlands.

Valued Customer,

Garmin has recently been made aware of an issue involving map data present on its Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs) that may cause the PNDs with certain map versions to indicate the direction of travel incorrectly on a very low percentage of road segments only in the Netherlands. Garmin has determined that certain roadway segments within the Netherlands have incorrect one way assignments, resulting in travel guidance against the flow of traffic for short portions of certain calculated routes. This issue affects primarily roundabouts or non-controlled access roads.

Products Affected

The issue affects the City Navigator Europe NT and NTU database version 2013.40. This database version was made available for download on 27 February 2013 and the issue therefore affects any Garmin PND to which the user has downloaded this database version since that date. The same affected map update is also available on an SD card as an accessory.

Resolution

As indicated in the operator manuals, always evaluate conditions such as road signs and traffic flow before following the GPS recommendations/guidance. Customers with City Navigator Europe NT and NTU 2013.40 database should be aware of the potential routing issues documented above and always ensure the vehicle is operated safely according to traffic and route requirements.

Garmin is currently working on a database update that will correct this issue and expects to have the update available in late April 2013.

But the DVD is......

etc.........

But even the DVD version (2013.10) will not load with the product numbers given. Garmin has halted all sales/installations of all Europe map versions, not just the 2013.40 Europe maps (DVDs, SDs and downloads). It looks as if they are still selling the downloads of the individual cities though.....including the Netherlands! I wonder if there is a problem with these also?

updates

It must be something with your number. I did upgrade to EU 2013.40 before they pull it off. Now if I start GarminMapUpdater it shows that I have unused update to EU 2013.30 (so downgrade for me). And even as I did 2013.30 and than 2013.40 update after it, it shows 2013.30 as never used (I have Lifetime Map updates).

I didn't do downgrade, as I will probably not drive in Netherlands before they fix this problem, but it doesn't shows any signs of being impossible to install 2013.30. But I will not argue, as I prefer to wait for fixed version than do downgrade.

Product Number Code

When I called customer service they checked and said the number was valid, but something at their end was having problems that would not allow any new installations to proceed and that they would resolve the problem by the beginning of May (this was mid March). I still do not undersand why the older version would not install if the problem was with 2013.40

Anyway, I returned the DVD to Amazon and got a quick refund.

Update

I just got an email from Garmin saying that they have resolved the issues regarding Europe downloads and DVDs not being able to be installed.

Time will tell.

It now works

Happy to report that the DVD and download Europe map installation now works. It is the 2013.30 version that you get, but you can now get it to install.

Side note: not too impressed with the map detail (google maps are better).....but that is another discussion.

CN Europe 2013.41

CN Europe 2013.41 is available for download. Should have those errors in 2013.40 fixed.

Thanks for the heads up on the availability.

I'm going to D/L it tonight on my 775t.
