Nuvi 205 screen does not respond

A friend has a Nuvi 205 and after he arrived here in Mexico he let the battery run down. It is now fully charged.

There is absolutely no response from the screen.
I used webupdater for the latest software for the 205.
Made no difference. Can not do a hard reset since the screen will not respond to anything.

Any suggestions other than its about time to buy a new GPS?

Thx

Try holding the power button

Try holding the power button in the on position for a few seconds and see what happens.

Fully Charged?

If there is no response from the screen how do you know it's fully charged?

What method did you use to charge it?

try to reset it. basically

try to reset it.

basically you need to hold the power button slider until it turns off and then press firmly with a thumb in lower right corner of the screen while turning the device on and hold your thumb right there.
If it works it should ask you if you want to remove all preferences and reset, hopefully the touch screen works since then.

I'd advise to fully update the device later if that worked.

Check around the edge of the screen

Make sure that the edge of a screen cover or some piece of trash is not wedged between the screen and the unit cover.

Worth a try before you trash the unit.

Power switch

2x0 and 2x5 series nüvis have a two-position power switch. Push to the left and the device powers up. Push to the right and the screen locks, disabling input. Check to see if the switch is in the locked position.

Well I have held a finger on the bottom right corner pushing very hard when turning the GPS on for about 15 minutes, nothing happens. I do get a battery icon telling me the battery is up.
It will boot to the warning page but clicking "accept" has no effect.
Then it will continue to the "Where to" and "View map" and tools and volume page.
There is no reaction to anything. Right now I am draining the battery all the way down and then try all this all over.
But I think if after trying for another hour and no results I will tell my friend its time to upgrade to a new Garmin.

From your description it sounds like the touchscreen is no longer responding properly. I think your friend will need to dip into his\her bank account and get a replacement.

Touch Screen Bad

The touch screen in my 660 went bad several years ago & I sent it to Jim at Sharcnet. He replaced the screen & it's been working fine ever since.

The best way to get in touch with Jim is to use his Contact tabe here at the POI-Factory arrow http://www.poi-factory.com/user/99265

I too was thinking of Jim at Sharcnet, but giving it some thought I don't think it makes economice sense to repair the 205. For 35.00 plus shipping to replace the touchscreen is something I wouldn't do for a unit with a 3.5" screen.

Repair?

Yeah. That would be up to Melaqueman's friend. He'll have to weigh the pros & cons of repair vs. replace. I figured I'd at least offer the option, but it would still be personal preference.

205 no more

Thanks again for all the info. My friend can afford to buy a new one versus $ 35.00 plus shipping for a screen repair.

Nuvi 205 screen

Had a similar problem. Best option was a new unit.

Nuvi 205

The reason why the 2xx touchscreen is more expensive to replace than say a Nuvi 3xx is because the 2xx touchscreens are soldered to the LCD display. The bad touchscreen must be unsoldered from the LCD and the replacement touchscreen must be soldered back in. In a Nuvi 3xx, the LCD flex cable and touchscreen cables are separate and no soldering is required.

The 2xx is definitely more labor intensive.
