Garmin Mobile PC alternative?

I have been using Garmin Mobile PC for years and for the most part like it. But recently the unit hasn't been acquiring as quickly and so I am wondering if it is getting old. I like using a pc for navigation because of the screen size and ability to upload pins (and it is also what I am used to) so though we have another Garmin unit as well I want to stay with the my PC set up.

Does anyone have a suggestion of an alternative?
What do I do if the unit stops working since it is now discontinued?

I have been googling but can't seem to get much info on GPS to PC.

Thanks

Haave you tried cleaning up your PC and reorganizing the data files. Perhaps cleaning the junk out of the Registry, deleting old, unused programs would also help. It's not that the program is getting slow, it's the processor running the program that is being overloaded.

You may want to look at some of the 7 inch Android tablets out now. Then purchase a GPS app for it. That way you have both the internet and navigation. See https://play.google.com/store/search?q=garmin+navigation&c=a...

Windows housekeeping--

Speeding up an old(er) windows system--

If it's still doing the job, why replace it? You can most likely speed up your old box with some free software for cleanup and housekeeping.

Empty the trash!

Clean up and defragment your disk -- you can use built-in Windows tools, or use two free programs from Piriform, CCleaner and Defraggler. If you haven't taken these steps, particularly on a Windows XP system, you may be amazed at the improvement.

Clean up your registry -- a very good free tool is Glarysoft Registry Repair.

Antivirus software? Throw out (turn off and uninstall) all old antivirus and install the free Microsoft Security Essentials. Having multiple different AV packages on a system really gums up the works.

Of course make sure you're up to date with patches. Tomorrow (Feb 12) is going to be a doozy from Microsoft.

Performing these steps (and blowing out the accumulated dust and cat hair) can rejuvenate an old box.

Oh, and when did you do your last backup?

Thanks anyway

Actually I'm not a novice computer user...or GPS user. I design software applications and though all of the suggestions given might have been "reasonable" if I was asking only about the speed of "my computer" & the GPS receiver acquiring signal it didn't really deal with the point of my question.

I rcvd some very useful help from "Laptop GPS world".
question:Garmin Mobile PC alternative.

Always a good idea to think possibly the poster isn't "dumber than a post..." especially as you reread your own response and check to see if your suggestions are on topic.

No harm in not posting if you have no info on the topic...

I have learned that everyone on here is only trying to help.

I just want to thank everyone that tried to help.

It might help someone else if it didn't help you.

Sorry you felt like they were treating you as a "dumb post" but they were only trying to help in their own way which is always great.
