Alleghany,
I linked the new files to the metro page and finally set up this discussion thread. I kind of let that ball drop.

St Louis - things to do for kids

I am a grandparent and when my grandkids come and visit, I always struggle to come up with age appropriate activities and things to do. Wouldn't it be great to have POIs based on age appropriate activities for kids? I know last time the Magic House was a great hit with the three year old, but even knowing the parks with good play equipment is something that likely would be valued but hard to come by for people like me or people driving through. Wouldn't it be great if a parent's group could tackle this one!

I agree

I agree, this would be a great resource to have for parents and grandparents alike. I know that when my family travels it would be nice to know where the local parks are so that if the kids need to run off some energy we are not driving around wasting gas.

List

I am a very low tech person, but would be glad to send a spreadsheet with places and lon/lat - only about a dozen but they are places I have used for my grandkids as well as friends with visiting kids. If I wanted to send that to you, how would I do it? And would I include my comment on the place (if any) as part of the name? Or depend on people to look up their own details?

I'm new here to the site

I'm new here to the site here but I live in the metro-east area and would be glad to help out.

Alleghany, what do you need this new recruit to help you out with?

St. Louis Metro Area

Well, I just finished (Is a POI file ever finished) the Metro Area Parks file, with about 750 parks, playgrounds, tot lots, etc. Maybe, like okoblaya says, develop a POI of kid-friendly attractions.

okoblaya,
If you send me the 12 or so that you have, I will start a age relevant, kid-friendly, POI of all attractions in the St. Louis area. Send to bluegrassguy@charter.net I live in St. Charles.

I just finished a best of St. Louis list

This is my first POI. It is comprised of mostly restaurants. I used a weekly St.Louis newspaper (Riverfront Times) and City Search as the source of what was considered the best of St.Louis. So far I have listed 110. I tried my best to not include any corporate chains.

Best Breakfast Courtesy Diner

Data Files

I have a data file that I have been compiling for another project of the 6,700 places in Missouri that ever had a Post Office.

Any that had zip codes are already geocoded and the rest are being worked (we have guys that collect photos of old POs).

Could you use an eastern Missouri sub-set? wink

STL Dog parks

I'm new so I'm not quite sure how to pass info from one person to another other than this way. If this isn't right let me know what to do. Anyhow, the "Dog Parks" file seems to be ALL parks.

I have recently done some research on Dog parks in the area. Should I go ahead and make one that only includes those?

Are you doing paid vs. free?

I would hate to drive to one only to find out it is a membership park (like the one at Wilmore park).

I'll figure out a way to

I'll figure out a way to keep them separate. Almost everyone in STL has a fee.

Route 66

I do a Route 66 trip that goes through St. Louis. I can give you the list and go from there. You probably have most of them listed but I'll give them to you. Just need address to send.

Dog Park Additon

Conway Park in Creve Coeur, MO has a off-leash Dog Park. Must pay fee at City Hall for code to get in. (about $15 a year I think).

Conway park

Thanks! I'll add it. If anyone has anymore, just message me directly and I'll get it updated.

St. Louis

If any POI list was needed for St. Louis, it would be The Hill restraunt list and the two Ted Drewes locations.
