Reload maps in 855 without losing Junction View or Lane Selector

Hi,

I have a Garmin 855 bought on line from the US and shipped to Australia with American maps installed and Australian maps on SD card.

I would like to buy and download the latest Australian maps with lifetime update and get rid of the American maps, but don't want to lose the Junction View or Lane Selector features.

Does anyone know a way around this?

Thanks.

welcome

Welcome to the forum.

As an answer, you are dealing with two different things, both related. The "Lane Selector" is part of the map data so it will be included in the file having the maps that are displayed. Junction view, the pictures of the junction are in another file stored in the jcv folder. These are tied to the map, but separate. The ones for each release only work with that particular map, so the ones for the current release won't work for the next. If you want to save them, you need to copy the JCV file to another device before updating.

The ability to display that information is part of the operating system, so it will always be there - provided the JCV file is there or the lane assist information is coded into the map.

Thanks Box Car, That makes

Thanks Box Car,

That makes sense. I think I have a few issues confused.

I guess as long as I buy a map with all the features that I want such as Lane Selector, Red Light and Fixed Speed Camera Locations etc and it has the JCV files, it should not matter what the base map is?

We use Base Map to describe the map covering the entire world. This map is route able and only shows major roads and points. The maps for Oz would be a regional map and this is what you are most interested in. Take the GMAPPROM file and the JCV file and store them someplace. This will preserve the US maps should you eve want them. Then do an update. This should overwrite the US files and replace them with those for your region.
