reverted back to V7.20

Well, I went back to V7.20

V7.60 works for navigation without incidents. However, it seems to have problems communicating with the GTM60 traffic receiver. It shows that GTM60 signal is weak while it is actually acceptable. And it seems to have difficulties locking into FM stations.

Went back to V7.20 solved the problems.

Did not have a chance to check if Jill can pronounce El Camino correctly yet. Jill could not pronounce Spanish street names correctly with V7.50.

I will stay with V7.20 for now.

The same holds true for my nuvi 3490 beginning with v7.50...seems to have alot of trouble holding onto the traffic signal despite *many* stations being in the FM traffic provider table. Have not fully tested v7.60 under real-world conditions but I know when v7.50 was released, I noticed the FM traffic locking ability was degraded almost to the point of being unusable. When I backdated to v7.20, this problem went away.

I have also noticed spotty traffic reception for some time but never thought it was connected with a FW upgrade.

Hmm.. never noticed any of those issues. What I wasn't sure of is why i get no traffic at all if i turn the unit on first and then plug it into the cradle. That icon will stay gray. I need to turn the unit off, remove it from the cradle and then put it back. I don't need to do that with the 3790.

How to Revert back to 7.2 ?

Greetings

I recently went from a Streetpilot C340 with an optional traffic interface to a Nuvi 2525 with the GTM60 traffic interface.

The C340 used to get a traffic lock within a few minutes.

The 2525 appears to take a very long time.

So, I would like to know how you can revert back to the 7.2 version.

Regards

Thanks

Just downloaded and updated. Thanks for the notice.

Reverting back to older firmware

**************
Firmware downgrading is not a standard process. Process with caution and do it at your own risk.
**************

There are several ways.

This is how I do it:

1. Dig out the backup copy of the gupdate.gcd file of the firmware version that you want to revert back to.

2. Check the .system directory of your Garmin unit. Locate the gupdate.gcd file. It is the installation file for the firmware currently on your unit. Rename it to something like gupdate.gcd.VXXX

3. Copy the old gupdate.gcd to the .system directory

4. Disconnect and turn off the gps.

5. Turn gps back on. The gps unit behaves similarly as if updating to a newer firmware when it detectes that the version of gupdate.gcd is different from the firmware on the unit. It will display something like, "The software that you want to install is older, proceed?"

6. Answer yes and wait. It will go through the same sequence as updating to a newer software. I seems to feel that it actually take a bit longer. Just be patient. Walk away for a few minutes have a cup of tea, etc. Just do not interrupt the process.

7. Make a copy of the current.gpx file as always to reconstruct your favorites after the update.

I also use an alternative process. This process allows me to switch back and forth between versions of firmware quickly:

Steps 3 & 4 above are replaced by the following:

A1. Create a directory \garmin on a u-SD card

A2. Copy the gupdate.gcd of the firmware version that you want to install to the \garmin directory.

A3. With the gps disconnected from and off, insert the u-SD

A4. Follow the same steps 5-7 above.

If you do not have a back up copy of your old gupdate.gcd, you will need to somehow get hold of a copy.

This thread on a different forum shows how to download it from Garmin Website:

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=138746

(The third SergZak's post in thread shows how. Change the version number in the download link to the one that you want to download.)

backdating to 7.20 software

Thank you for this. I have the .GCD file from SergZak's post for version 7.20 software but it is labelled: (nuvi24x5and25x5_GCDFile__720.gcd) Shall I just rename it GUPDATE.GCD ?

.

Yup, just rename it to GUPDATE.GCD. BTW, I am SergZak elsewhere. cool

Wow.

I learned a lot from you.

Thanks,

I have updated my 2-3490's

I have updated my 2-3490's to V7.60 and I notice that they reboot once per day. does anyone else have this issue?

BTW, I don't have traffic signal issues or any other issue except the reboots.

Thanks

Thanks

3590LMT

I updated to v7.6 and haven't noticed any reboot or traffic signal issues. I have and use a paid Total Traffic subscription added onto my GTM60 because Navteq traffic is not available in my city. I haven't been to a area that Navteq works in to test that signal with v7.6 yet.

Thanks for that Info. I was just thinking to ask about reverting before I do the upgrade.

Seems fine so far.

Been using 7.60 for a week on my 3590. Seems fine so far.

Thanks for giving feedback on 7.60

Good to have some eager folks on the forum to try it out first so we know what we're getting ourselves into. Thanks.
