Garmin nuvi 2555lmt won't boot... at all.

I've got a problem with my nuvi 2555LMT. I'm not sure what happened to it, but it simply will not boot. I get the GARMIN loading screen for about a minute, a quick white flash, and then the GARMIN loading screen for another minute etc. And it does nothing. My computer won't even detect a USB device when I plug it in, though it will automatically start when I do plug the USB in, with the same routine.
I've already done some looking around and tried a few things. I've tried a hard reset by holding down the power button for over 3 minutes. I've tried a factory reset by holding my finger in the lower-righthand corner, and nothing happens at all.

I'm not sure what to try next, since my computer won't even pick it up at all.

I'd love to get it working again. It seems silly that it would just cop-out on me.

Thanks!

Some thoughts

Welcome to The Factory.

Has your computer recognized the device before? If not or if you haven't tried before, it may be because your nuvi is in MTP mode and it needs to be switched to Mass Storage mode:

But first, there's the issue of non startup. My first thought is a weak or bad battery--and a weak battery may be due to a defective cable. If at all possible, try another cable connected either through your vehicle's cigarette lighter for a few hours or connected to a computer USB port overnight (making sure the computer is not set to sleep). A charged battery may be all that's wrong right now and if due to a bad cable, a new cable would be a quick and cheap fix for you.

If none of the above helps, can you tell us if you had done something (map update, firmware update, computer connection, etc.) with a previously-working device only to have it fail after your attempted task? And when connecting to a computer, do you always "Safely Disconnect" the device when done rather than just pulling the cable?

Good luck and report back.

Also ...

do you have a micro SD card installed in the unit? If you do and if CraigW's suggestions don't work, try starting it with the micro SD card removed.

Good thought. I'd do the above before trying my earlier thoughts!

Thanks guys. So far, I've

Thanks guys. So far, I've left it plugged in overnight, still to no effect, so I'm not sure if it's a battery issue. There is also no micro SD card in it.

It stopped working just randomly one time-- nothing was updated or changed, it just didn't turn on once when I turned on my vehicle, which makes it kind of baffling. I'm not sure where to go from here in figuring this out, but if anyone else has some ideas that would be great!

Thanks again for your help.

Same thing

I had the very same problem with my nuvi 1350. Tried everything and nothing worked. An email to Garmin customer support and they arranged a referb unit to be shipped back to me. Took less that two weeks.

Customer Support

I still can't find out what is wrong with this thing, so I sent an email to customer support, and hopefully they can figure out what is wrong with it, or send me a refurbished device. It's just kind of frustrating when something is working one day, and not the next, and for no apparent reason. Oh well.

Hold "Power" button one minute

Had same problem ... tried all of the above, but no luck. Finally, I held the power button down for approximately one minute and that did the trick. The device is working normally (so far...).

That

That is an excellent tip that will work with almost any Nuvi. Have used it with all the Nuvi's I've owned. smile

Furgo's advice:

Failed Firmware On Garmin 1450
With the nuvi powered off
1. Press and hold the upper left hand corner of the touchscreen with your finger
2. Continue to hold the touchscreen while pressing and releasing the power button on the device
3. The Garmin Logo should display
4. Continue to hold the touchscreen while connecting the device to your computer
5. After 30 seconds the screen should flash white, on this moment the computer install drivers if who don't
6. Release the touchscreen
7. A green progress bar should display on the device
8. After the progress bar completes (45-60 seconds) the device should go into Mass Storage mode with the picture of a computer tower on the display of the device
9. Run Garmin Webupdater
10. Update firmware
11. Eject USB driver
12. Reboot GPS unit.
