Loading and Viewing POI files in Basecamp?

All,

I've searched the forum and couldn't find an answer so my apologies if I've missed a relevant post.

Question:

I downloaded the speed and red light camera files (csv format) and a Texas speed trap file (gpx format).

I transferred them to my Nuvi and then transferred data to Basecamp.

I can't find any of the data above when I look in the Basecamp maps.

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong??

Appreciate the help and patience.

.

post deleted. Re-read the OP's post and my reply was not correct.

POIs vs Favorites

@jeeperaf,

Correction - Your Favorites will automatically be seen in Basecamp when you connect your GPS. You can transfer them at that time into your collection.

Custom POIs that you load onto your GPS using POILoader will only be on the GPS, they do not transfer to Basecamp.

transfering data

did you transfer to the nuvi using poi loader and did you place them on the nuvi or the memory card. i usually have to import into basecamp only after converting to gpx if it is csv. haven't transferred from nuvi to basecamp lately so i forget how i did that

Texas Speed Traps

The good news is that the original Texas Speed Trap file can be viewed in BaseCamp. Just import the original file GPX, not the device.

I'm not sure about the CVS file.

ok....so, I should convert

ok....so, I should convert the csv files (from this forum's camera files) into gpx and then IMPORT into basecamp?

Maybe create a new list in "my collections"?

appreciate the advice!!

Yes, convert from CSV to GPX

Yes, convert from CSV to GPX then import the file to BaseCamp. CSV files cannot be processed by BaseCamp.

i question

I question why you feel it is necessary to view the files in BaseCamp. Is it because you want to see their reported locations just to satisfy your curiosity?

The best package for viewing data used in Custom POI is Extra_POI_Editor. It will input both CSV and GPX files with no need to convert from one format to another. The program is free, however it is a Windows only package.
