2013.30 installation question

I have a Nuvi 1450 and today I installed the new maps but I'm not sure that everything went correctly.
First I downloaded the large JCV file and stuck it in a folder on my PC.
Then I ran the map install program from the Garmin site (and NOT the lifetime map install programn). Very early in the installation process the installer informed me that some of the downloaded file(s) would go on my SD card and other(s) would go on the unit itself.
The download seemed to go okay and I got the message that the installation was successful. But I seem to remember from prior map updates that once the download completed I had to turn the 1450 off and back on so that some clean-up could be done. That wasn't the case today. I got the "complete" message, and the 1450 just came up as always (no messages about being updated). The unit does show that it's now at the 2013.30 level.
I then went into the JCV folder in the .System folder on the unit and renamed the new, small (44,892 KB) JCV file from D3153080A.JCV to D3153080A.oldJCV and copied the new, large (774,550 KB) D3060080A.JCV file that I had downloaded earlier to the JCV folder in the Garmin folder on the SD card.
Result: The new map navigates correctly but there's no Junction View.
What have I overlooked or done incorrectly?

Hmm

One always-possible thought is that your tests went to areas with no Junction Views. We could check this if you give us your test route. Also, folks are occasionally caught when looking for JVs but with no route--the GPS needs to be navigating a route to offer JVs. I assume you already have confirmed that you have no double extensions due to your Windows Folders options. Was the SD card formatted FAT32? Did you get the jcv file from rame1012 as a zip and unzip it? Can I also assume that you "safely disconnected" or "ejected" the nuvi with its SD card after copying the file--or if you wrote directly to the SD card from a card reader on the computer, that you also "safely disconnected" the SD card? If you pulled the device (nuvi/SD or SD) while the file was still being written, the file will be corrupt and possibly the SD card as well. You could check the file size of the jcv on the SD and compare it to the original downloaded and unzipped file. Mine is 774,550KB.

I doubt that this is the issue, but I renamed the original file D3153080A.JCV.disabled. I wonder if your name ending with ....jcv could be confusing it.

Your thought of past needs to turn off the 1450, then reboot it may be the culprit so the reboot can properly search for the jcv from scratch. Without a reboot, the 1450 may still be looking at the nuvi's internal \garmin\jcv\ folder and see no .jcv file.

If that doesn't do the trick, I suggest you check that the SD card folders are spelled right: \garmin\jcv (Sometimes folks end up with jvc, etc.)

Beyond this, a bad SD card or a corrupted jcv file may give no results. You could try a different SD card, try the small default jcv file on the card, or think of some other test.

Your description seems exactly correct and should work so I'd first try to power-down and power-up and see if it's there.

If none of this works, I have one final thought but I won't get into that until you've gone through the above thoughts...

None of the above

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't think it's any of the above. I've done a bunch of updates successfully, but this one's a stumper.
First of all, I didn't do ANY naming of folders or files so there aren't any double extentions. Everything that was created the update created.
I used the d...oldJVC filename in the past with no problems.
My wife and I drove to a winery and for sure there are at least two junctions with views.
I'm going to copy the large JV file to the .JCV folder on the unit to see if that works. If not, I'm going to reinstall the whole shebang.

Try removing the smaller one from the unit / SD card.

JCV File

Move it from the card to the unit. That should work.

Got it working

That's what I did and that worked. I'd swear that JV worked on prior levels with the large JCV file on the card, but who knows. Thanks to all that replied.

Not on 2013.20 also

What have I overlooked or done incorrectly?

Phil

Just returned from an 800 mile trip. Did not update to the new 2013.30 before we left. I have the .20 maps on my Nuvi 2450.

Fort Worth I-20 to I35 - no junction view
Waco I-35 to service road to Hwy 77- no junction view
Fort Worth I-35 to I-20 - no junction view
Fort Worth I-20 to Abilene - no junction view.
Waco-Hwy 77 to service road to I-35- no junction view

On the entire trip not one junction view. Before the 2013.20 map update I had a lot of junction views in this area of Fort Worth. I did have lane assist so there was no problem at any exit. Just want to know why I don't have any.

Where do I look to see if a junction view file downloaded with my 2013.20 map update.

After researching I will download then see if I have any junction views.

For units that offer Junction View, the file you want to see will be of the format Dxxxxxxxx.jcv. For older units, the file can be found in the \garmin\jcv folder and for newer models, it'll be in the \.System\JCV folder.

Note that to find the file on the newer nuvi series, your computer should have its Folder Options set to show file extensions of known file types and absolutely must be set to show hidden files AND system files. Your 2450 is a newer model so you will only find the file if hidden and system files are set to be shown.

Tell us if you see a jcv file on your 2450, its filename and size. With the 2013.30 map and your series nuvi, you should see a D3191070A.JCV file that is 459,424KB in size. For your older 2013.20 map, the file is D3191060A.JCV which is 459,837 KB.

Some folks have reported the loss of a small number of JV locations with 2013.30 compared to earlier maps but your results of not having so many JVs on the past 2013.20 map seem suspicious to me, especially the interstate to interstate locations and the interstate exit ramps. How did you install your past 2013.20 that's missing your noted JVs--Lifetime Updater or through myDashboard? Did you let the installation update the nuvi or did you install the map to your computer, then use MapInstall to install the update to your nuvi? If you use MapInstall to install a City Navigator from computer to nuvi, you will not have created a JCV file and therefore all JVs will be missing. To see JVs, you must let Lifetime Updater or myDashboard do the installation to your nuvi, not MapInstall from Mapsource or BaseCamp.

Plz report back with your results or success! Good luck.

My file D3191060A.jcv in \.system\jcv, on the 2013.20 map is 449 mb, (470,876,160 bytes), modified 8/24/2012 7:47 pm, created 8/24/2012 8:12 pm.
I logged into Garmin and went to my account and did not use the dashboard. I used the updater on their site. I did not download the updater, just ran it and updated my device and my computer at the same time.

I will update my map tomorrow to the new one and see what it is. I will do a simulator of the same road to see if anything changed after my map update. I would do it now but my husband is waiting for the computer. We have 3 computers but this one is our favority and no one wants to use the others.

Thanks for your help. will report back hopefully tomorrow.

YOU SHOULD OF GOTTEN

A JV going north from Waco, approching the I35W - I35E split. I always do. After that no JV unless you are getting off, if you have it in the GPS to get off at that location.

Simulated

US-287 to TX-114 in Rhome.

I have been to this exit many times when coming from a car show in Decatur. Have to go to Giant Burger every time we get to this area. Each time I have traveled this route there has always been a Junction View.

I just did a simulation of this route with my old map, 2013.20 and I always use my Nuvi 2450 when we go here just to keep up with how much further we have to go. We always have a junction view here but in the simulating no junction view.

I looked at my calendar and the last time we went on the route was October 6. As you see in my above post the 2013.2 map was put on my unit August 24.

Something is wrong. I used the unit on October 6 and on this map there was a junction view but today with the same map and same route there is no junction view.

The only thing I have changed on the unit since the maps were installed was to add a new trip in trip planner. That should not do anything to junction view.

My unit files showe that I have junction view installed but I am not seeing junction view.

Is there a way to turn off junction view that I may have done not knowing it?

I watched

I watched for a junction view all the way and the split did not have one on my unit.

On the 800 mile trip to and from Port Aransas never was there one junction view even though I had programed in my unit to get on and off the interstates several times.

Not sure what it wrong. As you can see from my above post just posted I don't even have junction views I had a month ago on the same map.

Thanks for your help.

Will see tomorrow if the new map fixes the problem???

JUST DID A

Where To and looked at the route and a JV showed at the split of I35W and I35E. I have a 3590LMT.

Setting up the large Junction View file

On the entire trip not one junction view. .

The large JCV file is D3060080A.JCV. I originally made a mistake and copied it to the JCV folder on my SD card. In that environment, Junction View did not work. I moved it to the JCV folder which is under the .system file on the unit itself and now JV works as well as it ever did.

P.S.
If you want to move the large JV file to YOUR unit, don't forget use Control Panel to set up your environment to show hidden and system files.

Keep in mind that the D3060080A.jcv file (774,550 MB) is the intended junction view file for models that use full-screen JVs (the 7x5 and 8x5 series, for example) on the 2013.30 North America map.

This file can be used on models like mgarledge's 2450 that were designed for split-screen JVs but users will lose the feature of seeing map and JV simultaneously if they manually replace their 400-500MB file that comes by default with the large 774+ MB file.

Interesting...

I have a 1450LMT and a 1490LMT. I installed 2013.30 to the SD card, installed D3060080A.JCV to /Garmin/JCV/ on the SD card and just deleted /.system/JCV/D3153080A.JCV from the unit leaving the /.system/JCV folder empty. The full JCV file is working well on both units from the SD card.

Interesting

That's interesting. What you did, and what worked for you, is almost exactly what I originally did - only Junction View didn't work on my 1450. The only difference was that my /.system/JCV folder on the unit wasn't empty - it contained old, RENAMED, small JCV files from previous updates. Hmmm...

Not a Smooth Update

Ran into installation problems as the new Map would not install on PC only on my nuvi 2460LMT. I had to download it again the the PC - now all is OK.

2013.30 installed

Just installed the 2013.30

On device
JCV - D3191070A.JCV, 11-11-2012, 459,424 size

Maps on device
GMAPTZ.img - 11-11-12
gmapprom.img - 11-11-12
gmapbmap.img 3-14-11

Just did a simulation I-35 W and E split coming from Waco.

The junction views are Working...YEA.

When I went to Garmin to load my maps the update said I had not completed my last map update. It wanted to continue updating my 2012.30 update which I have never tried to install before.

I logged out of Garmin, then logged back into Garmin then went to update my map and it started from the baginning and installed the new map. My unit has 2013.30 install now and as I said junction views are working again.

OH, does anyone know why the gmapbmap.img from 3-14-11 is still on the device and do I need it?

Thanks for all your help.

I did remember something I did before I had the problem. I installed a free Europe map on my sd card. I did not like it so I deleted it from the SD card and wonder if it did anything to my unit?

All seems to work well now after my 2013.30 update.
