I just came back from a trip and took a different route than I had in my GPS. How can I save this route it seem that this route was shorter than the one I had in my Trip Planner.

I know I have found the trail that is left during my travels, but could not remember how to access that. Even then I do not think that could be saved as a route.
Try and recall the cities/towns you went through to duplicate the trip.
Having MapSource or MS S&T might make that easier to find the route you took.

Use Basecamp

You can't save the route, but you can save the Trip Log (this is a track) if your device has this feature and if you had the Trip Log turned on. You can check this by connecting your device to Basecamp and then clicking on Internal Storage under your device. If there are files called "Active Log" then copy those over to your computer to save them and then you can look at them in Basecamp by right clicking, Show on Map.

Download the track to MapSource.
Use the routing tool to trace over the track and create a route in MapSource.
Send the route back to the unit.
(Note that the above only will work if the unit supports stored routes.)
