myDashboard

Recently, when I go to myDashboard, it just sits at "Scanning for Devices". My 855 is connected and accessible.

USB Connection trouble?

Try to disconnect and reconnect the cable between your computer and the device at both ends. The computer may have trouble seeing the device. Do you see any "action" in the "safely remove hardware?"

connected too late?

In what order you are connecting device and scanning for it in MyDashboard? If you run MyDashboard and then connect device it may not show in system on time to be find by software.

Try first Juggernaut's advice. If it doesn't work try do this:

1. Connect GPS to computer and let it be found by system.
2. Check if it is visible and accessible (in Windows there will be new drive in My Computer. Click on it, should show some files on it).
3. Run MyDashboard and let it look for device.

If you can't see GPS as drive in system then it may be a problem with Garmin drivers. Install them from here:

Always plug device in first.

Always plug device in first. Works fine in all other aspects, both 'drives' visable/available from Win.; can download waypoints, tracks etc/upload POIs.

Tks all for suggestions/comments

Browser issue

Since your computer sees the device, the USB drivers, cable and nuvi should be fine.

In this case, the issue usually turns out to be a browser issue. What browser are you using? Have you tried another? Browser security settings? Add-ons?

Do you see anything telling you that Garmin Communicator needs to be installed? Are there problems with the installation of it?

Browser Issue?

I think CraigW is on the right track regarding it may be a browser issue.

Also a possibility you have it connected to a USB HUB which sometimes causes problems.
If you already have it connected to a USB port directly connected to the motherboard please disregard the suggestion.

As for the Browser causing the problem. If you are using Internet Explorer and version 4.03 of Garmin Communicator, you may need to install Windows Media Player 11.0 for it to work properly.

Information link to Garmin:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3607

States:
Communicator Plugin software version 4.0.3
Supports Windows XP and later.
Supports Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 3.6+, Safari 5+, or Chrome 8+.
This download only supports Windows computers. For the Mac download of Garmin Communicator Plugin click here.
This software requires Windows Media Player 11 or greater (a free download from Microsoft).

Ah, yes. Hubs can be problems and WMP is a good catch since it seems so unlikely a requirement that it can be overlooked.

@wdjohnson2

Would be nice if you posted back and let the forum know how you made out.
If the suggestions made didn't work let us know so we can troubleshoot further.
