Of course none of the issues we have been reporting about for years now still haven't been addressed. But I will most likely be relying on my iPhone for navigation soon anyway when ios 6 is released. Although I'll lose a few features, the traffic feature on the new maps app will provide much better routing.

If thats the only fix I might not update it.. But, when I update to the new maps I'll do it anyway..

Validate what? This update is for internal GPS software that is responsible for device running not maps update. After update usually is enough to restart GPS (it's is being done automatically) or rarely to do hard reset. Otherwise there is no difference in handling device before and after update.

remthi - Go to 'Tools'/'Settings'/'System'/'About'

Software version should be on the top line under the 'About' heading to right of the model name and unit ID.

What are you looking to validate? If the update was installed? You can see your 765's current unit software version like this:

1. Power on the device
2. Touch Tools on the main menu
3. Touch Settings
4. Touch System
5. Touch About

Just noticed today that there is an update available. Given Garmin's recent poor track rating of not testing their firmware updates adequately, i won't be updating for at least a year.
