Maybe less will be converted to fuel.

Our gas prices went up about 12 cents overnight last week. Think some speculators were spooked by the corn problem?

What to do when a political pollster calls.

Short answer: Tell them that you do not intend to vote.

This is the off season for me, so I've been doing some temp work with political call-outs. Yes, my parents are married.

This post applies to surveys only. If we are just recommending you vote for a particular person, just say 'Thank you and goodbye', then hang up at any time. We still get credit for it.

Politicians use my results to target mail-outs. If you tell me that you are not voting, the politicians will leave you alone.

If you are undecided if or who you are voting for, you stand a high chance to be on their mailing lists.

If you wish, tell us that you are voting and act sure who you are voting for. It's OK to tell us that you do not tell anyone who you vote for. Just don't curse at us. It doesn't hurt my feelings, it is just not nice.

If you let it go to the answering machine, we will keep calling. By law we can call up to 5 times.

It is unnecessary to tell us to take your name off the list. If we get you on the phone, we will not call back. But, that does not mean that another contactor will. We have no control over that.

It doesn't matter if you are on the Do Not Call list. These calls are not subject to that law. Nice, huh?

If you ask up who we are working for, we will make something up about being an independent surveyor doing a double blind survey, or something like that. Truly, we don't know. We are just reading a script in front of us. Our manager also controls what you see on the caller ID. It is probably bogus.

We get the phone numbers from the client. We think they get it from old voter registration lists. So, if you don't like it that we call your cell phone or business, you should have not put it on your voters registration. Also, don't yell at us if you are sleeping or making dinner. If you don't want the phone interrupting you, turn it off. I don't know what you are doing when I call.

Do not be mean to me. I am just a guy sitting in a big room with other people making minimum wage. I really don't care if or who you vote for.

We like nice people. A cherry 'have a good day' from you goes a long way with us.

Hate political calls

I can't believe the phone company can't keep me from being bothered by political calls. It has caused alot of people to dump their land lines.

Just got back from Virginia

Had a great trip.

Back from Indy..

Came back from a trip to Indianapolis last weekend which was both good and bad.

Good: Our Nuvi worked flawlessly and got us to all our destinations perfectly. It also found some good restaruants (wish it displayed the phone numbers though). The Indy 500 Museum and the Childrens Museum trips were both excellent!

Bad: Our motel and the area we stayed in were really, really bad! Never had been there before so didn't know where to stay, but if we ever go back, we will know better. Cheaper is not always better! And, it was 105 degrees which made it difficult to do anything outside.

Political calls

Look at it this way. Politicians make the laws. Do you think they are going to allow people to not get their calls?

Hi

Hi

just wait

Politicians will start calling on cell phones when the land lines dry up

Great summer

Having a great summer so far enjoying the weather.

Phone numbers

IAHMALE wrote:

Not sure about that. I've been told that the phone numbers we get are maybe from old voter registration records. So, whatever number you put on your registration is probably the one we are calling.

Some of the numbers I call are cell phones. The call-ee is normally miffed that I called their cell. Last night, one woman spent 5 minutes berating me because I was using her minutes.

YMMV

I did not give my phone number to the registrar of voters. I was away just before the primaries here in Illinois. When I returned my voice mail was nearly full.
I'm thinking it was the phone company that provided the list.

I wonder if

my answering machine will be allowed to vote.

Since it is the only one here that will listen to political calls.

Don't believe so. Sometimes I get a business number or switchboard. I don't see how the phone company knows what those are.

Happy Friday

Have a great weekend

World Choir Games

The World Choir Games are winding up today (Friday the 13th). Kind of like Olympics for choirs. Cincinnati has had the privilege of being the first U.S. city to host this event. I had never even heard of it before, but it was great to see choirs from all over the world come here for this event.

Good to be home

It is great to visit family and friends but it always feels good to be home with your own bathroom, bed and recliner.
Have a great week.

Best thing ever - caller ID

David King wrote:

Best thing ever - caller ID if I don't recognize the call - phone stays on hook. If I get a few calls phone number goes into the blocked list. (uverse)

we are seriously thinking about dropping the land line all together as mentioned above.

Rain in Chicago

Chicago finally gets some much needed rain on Friday and Saturday.

We will call you back if we get an answering machine. And, we can control the number you see on the ID, so that may not work except for that one job.

The only reason we've kept the land line is for the burglar alarm.
