2595 POI Questions & Issues

Just picked up this unit - I know of how TomTom works with adding and finding POIs but I have some questions related to Garmin.

I am also aware of issues with the firmware 6.30 and "categorization" of custom POIs - but not 100% sure if what I want is related or unrelated to this firmware.

Q1: When I loaded my POIs what I discovered was that during the Voice Command option to FIND A PLACE, NONE of the custom POIs appear. Is this true?

Even if I keep saying "DOWN" they never appear. It appears they only show stock POIs.

The only exception so far is if I save a place then say "SAVED PLACES" it will appear as a line item.

Q2: When I do a manual search (non-voice command) I have found two issues:
a) That most of the time, my POIs - do not appear in the list until the very end of the stock POIs. Then the list of all custom appear one after the other.

b) The odd time - not that often and not 100% of the time for sure - maybe just maybe the custom that is closest to me will appear at the beginning of the list. I have clocked some hours with this and there is no rhyme or reason.

Even better - I added custom Golden Corral in NC. When I looked for them starting from Toronto, the first on the list WAS the GC in North Carolina (1080km S) and the very next one was the closest in Erie PA at 200km S.

What I also noticed is that they appear differently in the list - stock shows NAME/street whereas the custom only show the name.

Q3: Now I believe this IS related to the firmware problems but I want to double check. I created a directory called Restaurants. Even though I put the files in there, when I search for a POI within Restaurants, they do not appear. If I do a search from the main menu - with no category, the find is a bit longer but the POIs appear (as per Q2 above)

All of this sounds hokey. I don't see a unified goal. To enable us to load in custom POIs and then, when searching meld in the custom locations (even if repeats). Instead, "we will accept your custom, but we won't really consider them part of any serious searches."

Under Category search - I saw Custom POIs before and now I don't yet I did load some.

As I posted on another site - I can get a paper map to get me from A to B. Part of the point of this device is to tell me what is available to see/do/eat etc. Unfortunately, a cell phone option isn't cheap thanks to roaming charges - otherwise I would have one and rely on that.

After reviewing this last night I feel I probably need to go back to TomTom ... unless someone can tell me all the troubles I listed are part of the botched firmware. But I doubt it.
