Does Anybody Here Store JPEG Files On Their Garmin?

Granted, this is specifically POI Factory, not MP3 Forum or JPEG Forum, but does anybody here store photographs on their Garmin Nuvi or other GPS device? I recently updated a second hand Garmin Nuvi 350 that I just bought. I updated the map to 2013.1, added Custom POIs, loaded an MP3, downloaded Favorites, but I really haven't done much with photographs and I am wodnering if others here do use the Picture Viewer?

No

Nope, no JPGs. I've never bothered with the Picture Viewer function.

JPEG

Only to change the start-up picture from Garmin to a view of a friends lake in Northern Michigan.
Works excellent but that's on a 650.
Go and fool with it but back up your files.

Lists

When I traveled alot (pre-retirement) I'd make to-do lists for myself and save them as JPG files and load them on the Garmin (1450). Then as I went through the daily grind, I could call up the various lists and have them right there for viewing. Was quite convenient.

I use jpegs for

certain geocaches to help with locations. I make the pictures from GoogleEarth views and modify the dimensions to fit my Nuvi 1350. When I plan a trip I create a gpx file of route changes and occasionally I insert pictures into the gpx coding which also includes restaurants I might want to visit. Works like a charm.

I geotag my own photos of city places where I want to visit and upload them to my Oregon 550 which will then "goto" that spot on a map - neat.

I Do

I usually have a few family pictures on my 1490 SD Card so that if some one asks about the family or some project, I can whip out the Garmin and give a boring story with photographs.

Slide Show on Zumo 665

I load photos from our groups motorcycle trips and occasionally have them playing on slideshow when we're taking a break and sitting around the bikes.

I did geotag some a while back also. I think it's called Photo Navigation ??? Worked great.

Yes on Oregon, no on nuvi.

I only use a JPG on my nuvi's for the startup screen. But on my Garmin Oregon 550T (which has a camera) I use the camera and associated JPG's to record geocache finds and other interesting things I see along the trail.

Nope,

I just use the photos that came on my 350.

can't do that on a 765t

Unfortunately, 765t does not allow you to change the start up picture. I would love to add my own.

Nope...

just another option that I never seem to have used...

I have a few.

Mine boots to a security alert photo at start, and also have a few family photos on it.

Go to Tools > Picture viewer. Select the picture you want, then press "Info" and check "Use this photo as the default splash screen".

A Useless Extra

My phone has a camera and I can view pics on it.

My camera allows me to view my pics.

I don't see a real purpose of the picture viewer on the Garmin.

OK.....so where the heck am I?

No Need

Nope, I have never seen a need to store pics on my GPS.

Me too

I had photos of the grandkids on my old Nuvi but have not taken the time to put them on the new one. Nice to have if you see old friends.

I Do Not Do This Now

There was a time, several years back, where I would have MP3's and JPG's on my PND. When traveling, I would listen to an audio book or possibly some music, as well as having a photo album. I would also have some text files for those quick reference guide's I'd refer to.

In the current times, I have all that and more on my smart phone and use the PND strictly as just that; navigation only.

Yes, for the general day to day use, I'll even use the GPS function on my smartphone, but for trips or for when another family member is traveling, they will use the PND.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

I do it very often. Garmin

I do it very often. Garmin has photo site with location tagging. I browse the photos and once I find a beautiful location, I download it to the gps and drive to there.

Harley Error Codes.

Harley has 7 pages of error codes that I scanned and saved as jpg files on my Zumo. If another rider or I have a bike problem, those could come in handy and this way they are not lost on printouts folded up somewhere. They are very small files and can be magnified to see the codes and directions for getting the codes to display.

No, I save them on an SD Card

No, I save them on an SD Card. You pretty much need all the memory/space for the map updates, especially with the JCV & 3D maps. Yes the picture viewer leaves a lot to be desired.
My 2 cents

I see no need for it as well. I want to leave enough space on mine for updated maps and plenty of great POI files from this site.

a few

I have a few pictures on mine. Not a lot, only about a dozen of my best. I have plenty more space so could put more on, but so far haven't. I have had occasion to show some of those to others, and it was when I didn't have my main computer and photos available. The space isn't in use, the feature is basically free, so why not?

Before loading them on the nuvi I reduced them to twice the screen resolution. That saves a lot of space and still gives me some zoom capability when I want to enlarge them while showing them to others.

I do the same.

Nope, haven't done that.

I use my GPS for the primary purpose it's designed for. No JPEGs, no bluetooth, no music.
