Personal avatar (picture) discussion.

We received an email from jmkthird suggesting we start a thread so that members could discuss or explain their personal avatars/pictures.

We think that's a great idea since we have some really interesting ones out there!

If you have recently changed your picture and are not seeing the new one or if someone else is describing their new avatar and it's not what you are seeing hit F5 on your keyboard to reload the page.

Looking forward to your explanations and/or descriptions! razz

In honor of the new thread I changed my avatar.

Now have I picture of my new 8-week-old border collie puppy, Tobi.

Tobi is a smart little guy, already attempting to train me to fetch his ball for him.

Kana'a

Mine is the Hopi kana'a katsina (kachina), the resident katsina of Sunset Crater Volcano just NE of Flagstaff AZ and whose eruption would have been viewed from residents of the Hopi Mesas when it first erupted.

Saskatchewan

A few years ago I took a road trip from PA to Saskatchewan, and took this picture at the border of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I have an 09 Jetta TDI (currently 110K miles), averaged 40 MPG for the trip. At the time I had the latest maps loaded on my c340, but had some strange mapping issues when driving on this highway. I can't explain why, but the pink line would veer off the road in a straight line at roughly a 45 degree angle into the fields instead of taking the road....

Avatar

My picture is an African Rhino. I had a wonderful career working with Zoological Parks and National and International Wildlife Associations as a Population Biologist. I assisted in Genetic and Population Demographic analysis of both wild and captive populations of exotic animals to assist in developing breeding and management strategies.

One of my favorite species was the Southern White Rhino......Hence the avatar. The "silver" comes from the color of my Dodge 3500 4X4 tow vehicle.

My avatar?

I chose the "Swedish Chef" as we both ave difficulty making ourselves unnerstood at times.

Every Day

I sing at Assisted Livings and Nursing Homes and the last or next-to-last song for over 11 years has been God Bless America.

We say that EVERY DAY should be Veterans Day, because without their service and sacrifice we would not enjoy the freedoms that we do. EVERY DAY should also be a day that we "remember" what veterans have done for us - don't wait for Memorial Day to do so.

Thank you for your service.

For some reason...

I thought it would be fun to add a picture of my Great Grandfather Charles Hale Scarritt of Saint Louis, Missouri B:1855 D:1917 President of Scarritt Railroad Car Seat Company, Scarritt Furniture Company, the largest furniture company west of the Mississippi, 1835-1917. A great deal of his furniture is still in use, I get calls on it, it's age, value etc. Still fun!

Picture...

I am involved in Greyhound Dog Rescue, so this is a picture of "Fred" the Greyhound, who is owned by a friend from our rescue group. I like the picture as it is a good representation the happy, goofy personality of Greyhounds. Maybe one day I will change it to a picture of our dog Comet, who is also a real character but always looks away when the camera comes out.

Do you know the Freelander ?

Made by Land Rover a few years back, its nickname came from its look - the Hippo.

I was rather active on a hippo-related forum, so had found that nice pic somewhere, and decided to use it.

I recently traded it for a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, so this might be a link to my future avatar - if I decide to change it.

I'm also quite close by heart to the Corsican people, I can even SEE their island from my terrace. There's a picture of it on my website if you don't believe me smile So that may be a second option if I were to decide a change of avatar.

Last option, my best partner Seypah, a German Shep.

Now one option I will NOT use, is post a pic of me or my beloved wife. That's a bit too intimate, and I don't want to see a picture of her, I want to see the real thing, at all times, next to me. I somehow wasted the first thirty years of my life without her, I'm now doing the very best possible job of making up for it grin

I just like the retro look and it has been trouble free for 66,000 miles. The mileage is going up in late April or May on a trip to Michigan and Minnesota then on to Georgia and N. & S. Carolina in November.

Work Hard / Ride For Fun

I work hard, much of the time it is long hours and I travel often to do it. So I have to do something to clear my head when I'm off work. There is nothing like a nice, windy road on my Harley Road King to do that.

The avatar is me riding "The Snake" in the Cherokee National Forest, TN, 2 years ago. I forget how many turns and curves there are. You lose count with all of the beautifull scenery.

Last year I road the Ozark Mountains for 6 days. I usually try to get multiple long trips in each year.

The story goes that only the exterior of the house and yard were actually used in the movie. It was put up for sale on ebay and a guy bought it sight unseen, put $250,000 into it to make it look like the interior shots for museum purposes.
