We received an email from jmkthird suggesting we start a thread so that members could discuss or explain their personal avatars/pictures.
We think that's a great idea since we have some really interesting ones out there!
If you have recently changed your picture and are not seeing the new one or if someone else is describing their new avatar and it's not what you are seeing hit F5 on your keyboard to reload the page.
Looking forward to your explanations and/or descriptions!
In honor of the new thread I changed my avatar.
Now have I picture of my new 8-week-old border collie puppy, Tobi.
Tobi is a smart little guy, already attempting to train me to fetch his ball for him.
Mine is the Hopi kana'a katsina (kachina), the resident katsina of Sunset Crater Volcano just NE of Flagstaff AZ and whose eruption would have been viewed from residents of the Hopi Mesas when it first erupted.
A few years ago I took a road trip from PA to Saskatchewan, and took this picture at the border of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I have an 09 Jetta TDI (currently 110K miles), averaged 40 MPG for the trip. At the time I had the latest maps loaded on my c340, but had some strange mapping issues when driving on this highway. I can't explain why, but the pink line would veer off the road in a straight line at roughly a 45 degree angle into the fields instead of taking the road....
Mine is the pitcure of a witch on a broom stick my sone in Missour put on his yard light for halloween.
My picture is an African Rhino. I had a wonderful career working with Zoological Parks and National and International Wildlife Associations as a Population Biologist. I assisted in Genetic and Population Demographic analysis of both wild and captive populations of exotic animals to assist in developing breeding and management strategies.
One of my favorite species was the Southern White Rhino......Hence the avatar. The "silver" comes from the color of my Dodge 3500 4X4 tow vehicle.
I chose the "Swedish Chef" as we both ave difficulty making ourselves unnerstood at times.
Scan mine with a QR code reader to reveal.

NASCAR 2011 Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart, driving the #14 Office Depot Chevrolet. He is a 3-time champion, also winning the NASCAR Cup Championship in 2002 & 2005.
His nickname is "Smoke."
A retired Marine and Proud!! Sempi Fi!!
I sing at Assisted Livings and Nursing Homes and the last or next-to-last song for over 11 years has been God Bless America.
We say that EVERY DAY should be Veterans Day, because without their service and sacrifice we would not enjoy the freedoms that we do. EVERY DAY should also be a day that we "remember" what veterans have done for us - don't wait for Memorial Day to do so.
Thank you for your service.
Taken by a friend, with me looking slightly bewildered (as usual).
Random detail: this was taken when our group was in a building on California Ave in Palo Alto. The building was vacant for a few years, but now houses Facebook.
wake up late and stay in the forum late, hence the night owl
Mine is of my two coonhounds. Genny and Jorja.
Avid BBQer & Smoker. My specialty is Pulled Pork & Ribs from my Weber Smokey Mountain.
The better half and myself, others I use, pics from around the yard and garden`and the Poppy on Remembrance Day.
We get very little RESPECT and second in industry... only our Military being larger! (very Good company)
However, if we were to stop for as little as THREE DAYS, ALL of America would stop!
"Without Trucks America Stops"
My Truck driving down the "Middle of the Road"...
It Represents never Compromising on Safety!
20 Years and close to 3 million miles and proud to be a Trucker!
The avatar and username are all related to this.
I thought it would be fun to add a picture of my Great Grandfather Charles Hale Scarritt of Saint Louis, Missouri B:1855 D:1917 President of Scarritt Railroad Car Seat Company, Scarritt Furniture Company, the largest furniture company west of the Mississippi, 1835-1917. A great deal of his furniture is still in use, I get calls on it, it's age, value etc. Still fun!
Sometimes it sums up how I feel.
From SpokanBob to Spokybob. I used to drive a wagon team at theme park.
I am involved in Greyhound Dog Rescue, so this is a picture of "Fred" the Greyhound, who is owned by a friend from our rescue group. I like the picture as it is a good representation the happy, goofy personality of Greyhounds. Maybe one day I will change it to a picture of our dog Comet, who is also a real character but always looks away when the camera comes out.
Always liked Colt pistols, always liked 1911 style pistols hence the Colt Gold Cup 1911.
I love guns (mostly heavy barreled bolt guns)and reloading. Keeps me busy and out of trouble.
When I started posting questions, people didn't know what type of GPS I had.
Represents the United States Armed Forces. I proudly served in the World's Finest Navy, the United States Navy, for 26½ years. I will always have a love and respect for all of my brothers and sisters in arms in all of the services.
I love trains and this I thought this pic was really cool. Taken by a fellow cacher.
just look at my "name" - which happens to be my initials.
Made by Land Rover a few years back, its nickname came from its look - the Hippo.
I was rather active on a hippo-related forum, so had found that nice pic somewhere, and decided to use it.
I recently traded it for a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, so this might be a link to my future avatar - if I decide to change it.
I'm also quite close by heart to the Corsican people, I can even SEE their island from my terrace. There's a picture of it on my website if you don't believe me So that may be a second option if I were to decide a change of avatar.
Last option, my best partner Seypah, a German Shep.
Now one option I will NOT use, is post a pic of me or my beloved wife. That's a bit too intimate, and I don't want to see a picture of her, I want to see the real thing, at all times, next to me. I somehow wasted the first thirty years of my life without her, I'm now doing the very best possible job of making up for it
I just like the retro look and it has been trouble free for 66,000 miles. The mileage is going up in late April or May on a trip to Michigan and Minnesota then on to Georgia and N. & S. Carolina in November.
A photo taken of yours truly at the Healing Flag Field at Temple Square, Salt Lake City about 6 years ago during a cross country driving trip.
The location, the sentiments, the meaning of the field really impressed me !
I had to download a QR Scanner program and I scanned your image. Interesting.
P.S. That's my puppy Charlemagne.
for your service to our country...S/F!
Mine is the searching for sat icon used from the Garmin Streetpilot 2610 (which I still think was the most solid and bug free unit by Garmin). I animated three screenshots together with Photoshop.
This is where I live: the Smoky Mountains.
.... before we married.
Bluegrass and Old Time country is the music I grew up on, and still listen to daily. I also pick a little (damn little). Also a Proud Air Force Veteran, and American Legion member, where we in St. Charles, MO, today honored the remains of fallen Hero, SFC Frederick Nicholas Moses.
"One of my legs is shorter than the other and both my feet's too long. 'Course now right along with 'em, I got no natural rhythm.
But I go dancin' every night, hopin' one day I might get it right. I'm a dancin' fool!"
Most of my trips with my partner and my GPS are to square dance halls in other cities all over the Southeast. There are clubs everywhere!
Been playing around with a QR generator app myself, and also have gone the route of QR code sigs...in this case not so much what you're doing, more of a nice surprise.
(And mine is because everyone needs a good word now and then)
chemist by trade, but I like to think of myself as a mad scientist.
in Cuba in January 2005; rum & coke, cheap cigar, watching the waves and the ladies.
Taken at Musee D'Orsay in 2008, I believe.
good ones! Still so much more to go.
I work hard, much of the time it is long hours and I travel often to do it. So I have to do something to clear my head when I'm off work. There is nothing like a nice, windy road on my Harley Road King to do that.
The avatar is me riding "The Snake" in the Cherokee National Forest, TN, 2 years ago. I forget how many turns and curves there are. You lose count with all of the beautifull scenery.
Last year I road the Ozark Mountains for 6 days. I usually try to get multiple long trips in each year.
looking at a map of a snake with the pointer pointing to two humps saying "You are here" Thought it was fitting since we all like to know where we are
it's a major award! Just a nod to the Christmas Story house at home here in Cleveland.
Last year I took a trip around the Great Lakes, and on the way back home we stopped at the Christmas Story house and took the tour.
My grown kids watch it every year and plan to have the grandkids watch it too! So many funny scenes.
The story goes that only the exterior of the house and yard were actually used in the movie. It was put up for sale on ebay and a guy bought it sight unseen, put $250,000 into it to make it look like the interior shots for museum purposes.
The father (Darren McGavin) going down to fight the furnace, the "oh fudge" while changing the tire, watching the glow of "electric sex" from the sidewalk...
