Garmin Lifetime Maps $59.00 (and a free Nuvi)

That old thread about Lifetime maps at $86.00 keeps getting new posts. Well, today (3/13/2012) you can get Lifetime maps for $59.00 from Walmart, and it comes with a new Nuvi GPS! The GPS is a 1100LM and here is the link:

I'm not saying that everyone should rush out and buy this GPS, but it seems crazy to me to spend $86 or more just for lifetime maps when you can buy a new Garmin GPS with lifetime maps for $59.00

the lifetime map subscription ie tied to that 1100 garmin

I saw that earlier today but the problem is the unit is very basic with a small screen and the lifetime map subscription is tied to that 1100 garmin unit. They use to give a Lifetime Map card that could be used with a different unit if you wanted to but now I think there is no longer a card and the LM is tied to that serial number.

Many new nuvis come with

Many new nuvis come with life time map included with particular SN, and not with a card or code that can be redeemed for the life time maps. Such life time maps can't be transferred from one unit to another.
Last week I purchased 3790LMT from Amazon and didn't have option to use the LM for another unit. As soon as I registered the unit on the Garmin website it recognized it as a LM unit.

I was excited for a moment,

I was excited for a moment, then read the thread and was disappointed. Can the OP change the title to better reflect the actual Nuvi with LM for $59 and NOT the LM for $59?

you can purchase a lifetime download code for $64.99

If you are just looking to purchase the lifetime maps for a unit you own this link is to a reliable site where you can purchase a lifetime download code they will email to you for $64.99 that you can use for any single Nuvi you choose to tie it too. As soon as you get the code you can go on line and start the lifetime downloads for the unit you want to use it on.

Hmmm?

Is the 1100 such a bad unit that they have to essentially give it away for the price of the lifetime maps just to move it?

There is just a lot of price competition from top of line units

There is just a lot of competition from what you can buy a top of the line unit with every option.

I just purchased a 3790LMT a couple weeks ago from Walmart and that unit originally went for $499 when it came out. The 3790LMT not only has lifetime maps and traffic but a much nicer and super easy to read in bright sunlight screen, 8GB memory, bluetooth and voice command with full year warranty and it cost me $159.98.

Without a doubt by far the best Garmin I have owned.

A Good deal if you're

A Good deal if you're looking for an 1100LM. Not a good deal if you are looking for lifetime maps for your current nuvi.
