Annoying Newbie Question #3

Having recently joined and participating in the forums, I am sold on getting this Portable Friction Mount for my NUVI 360......however, the lowest price I found was $28.00 total with shipping from www.PROVANTAGE.com
I know Garmin sells for $35.00

Has anyone found for less, or am I being to.......thrifty?

Being thrifty is good.

But my luck is usually when I buy something for the best price I can find, within a week, I spot the same thing for less than I paid for it... smile

I have been shopping for the same item and you came to the same conclusion as I did--that provantage has the least expensive price. That is where I will be ordering mine from. Also, for others shopping around for this item, look carefully at the model number and make sure you ordering the one that has the mounting arm included to snap the mount on to. Many places that I went to that I thought had a better price was actually the model without the arm.

What is a "Portable Friction Mount for my NUVI 360". My Nuvi 360 arrived 30 min ago - trying to charge it using my computer but the screen still says "nuvi and shows a Nuvi and a Computer". Hope it's charging.

Didn't you get an AC Charger?

You should have...

Otherwise, if you want to do it off the computer, that's OK too...just power it down while still connected, and it should go mostly dark, and the screen should say "charging mode"

Portable Friction Mount

To mount my Nuvi 360 to the beanbag, I also had to buy the automotive mount to go with it (Garmin Part #010-10815-01) which brings the price up to $60, but it is well worth it. And if you are in California, it's legal, as the suction cup is not.

AC Charger???

I found it - sorry - it plugs into the unit the same place the USB ones does. I feel so silly. Thanks again.

Bean Bag mount

I recently received the bean bag mount and think its a pretty good accessory. It has a non skid surface underneath, weighs enough to not skid accross the dashboard, and isnt too bad looking either. Its black color doesn't seem to create any glare up on the sunny dash.

I paid full price $35 from TVNAV.com and got it in one (yes one) day via UPS without paying extra for faster postage.

Don't do that.

The power output from your USB is far less than an outlet and will take longer to charge.

ALSO, you HAVE to press and hold the power button to turn the unit off once you connect it to the USB or the Outlet charger. By default it turns on. You will then see a message stating charging device.

If you don't do this, you will be killing your batter overall lifespan because the light that is on is using your battery while you are attempting to charge.

Portable Friction Mount

Did you initially purchase the Portable Friction Mount
010-10908-00
or did you get

Portable friction mount (beanbag only)
010-10306-00

I think the first one comes with the mount available.

Bean Bag mount

Do you have the one with the mounting arm on the bean bag?

Newbie Too -What is a Portable Friction Mount

Instead of using the suction cup thing that came with your unit which will most likely cause damage to your windshield or dashboard, purchase this item
(www.provantage.com - $29.15 total with shipping)

You can review it at Garmin.com go to your nuvi unit then click the accessories tab.

It justs sits on your dash, and the underside is made of a matted "grippy" rubber material (that be the FRICTION) that it stays put even during unexpected braking or acceleration of your vechicle.

Extremely worth it.
