Have existing Custon POIs loaded on GPS Nuvi 3790T,.

Hi, and thanks a head of time for any help.
Problem is this. I have an existing POI file that was down loaded by my company. I do not have the original file. I need to download my own custom POIs along with the company's. What I need to do is somehow recover the existing file and convert back to a format that the POI Loader can recognize along with my personal files. Also the alerts are not working on the existing file. I do know I can fix that with the POI Loader in manual mode but still need the existing file converted to do it.

What format is the file in?

You mention that the file is a poi file. If it is a true poi file then it will be in a .gpi format and you should be able to copy it to the proper folder in the nuvi. The nuvi will handle multiple gpi files. Multiples are usually set up in folders.

The company provided file could be a GPI file as well. You need to find out which you have. If it's a GPI, then making certain it isn't the same name as your custom file will keep it on the unit.

POI issue

The file is a .GPI file. So the problem is how to convert it back to a file the POI Loader will handle. This way I can also get the alerts to work in the manual load mode

no conversion needed

Just make certain their file has a name like company.gpi and the file you create has another name. You can have multiple GPI file on a unit.

@Sasquash5074,
Check this site for the converters you want. Then you can recompile it with the alert you want.

To bear007, used the link and to convert GPI file to GPX. All I get is one waypoint. File is 1.5mgb.

Am Stumped on how to deal with this conversion. This file has a lot of personal information, Have to be careful how I deal with it,

Company?

Might the company share the original csv or gpx file with you if you ask?

Since you had to pay a little it can't hurt to ask their support team why it didn't work. Maybe there is a problem.

GPI FIle Converison Issue has become Format Issue

GPSBable converted the file. Now have it in excel. Format looks right but in wrong order. Col A says WAYPOINT, COL B Name, C Address, D Yr/M, E Phone #, F TR (? what it means), G Blank, H UserWaypoint, I Formatted as in brackets (N36 48.735 W76 16.793),
J, K, L, M are all Blank, N,O, P Symbol & Name Unknown Waypoint.

From what I have read Lat Lon are not formatted right and in wrong order.
My goal is to Have it alert and display Name, Address, Phone #, Yr-Mth.

A friends Garmin, older unit, displays what I want but my Nuvi 3790 doesn't.

Any Ideas. Am enjoying the learning process.
and thanks for all the help and advice.
