What is your Favorte POI that you use

I am wondering what is your favorte POI file that you got from here. (Yes, even if you got it from somewhere else is ok too).

OTHER than the top 3, Red Light, Rest area, and Walmart (lol)

I want to see what type of poi files that are used for more projects in the future!

Hope I get great input in this research!

Harley-Davidson dealers

hat one has paid off for me a couple times.

Redlight/Speed Cameras and Rest Areas come up automatically for me. They are good to have installed.

Garmin DriveSmart 5 My other toys: IMac quad-core i3, Mac Mini M1. MacOS: Ventura 13.3.1 The dog's name is Ginger.

Besides the ones I, myself, have submitted.....

I like the AMTRAK POI file and the ARBY's resturant POI.

I guess it boils down to what you like to do....

I like to travel by train and eat at ARBYS razz

I have seen the future and it is now!

Does 'Home' count?

I use it a LOT to get out of complicated neighborhoods as it usually gets me to the nearest major road/highway

restaurants

When we travel on vacation or even short trips around the state I use the different restaurant POIs the most.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Favs

We use "Campgrounds and RV Parks Combined" a lot since we camp as we travel (not for recreation for a place to sleep. Next I guess is McD, not for the food but reasonably clean bathrooms and free WiFi. We also find that if we buy a large drink they will let us fill our insulated water bottles with ice and cod water for free.

Food

Mostly food stops. Chipotle for one. Wish there were a few more of them!

Historical Markers / Mom & Pops

kurzemnieks wrote:

I usually show Historical Markers for the state I am in so that I know what the sign said while not stopping.

I'm still new to the site and haven't been on any extended road trips lately. But I can look into the future and seeing this POI file being used.

Mom & Pops shops/restaurants also sounds pretty cool.

On the Alphabetized list of POI available on the site page. I'm only through the letter "C" so far.

I've considered doing one for my own personal use though.
Desert Schools Federal Credit Unions ( DSFCU ). I think they are only local here in the Phoenix area. With some small satellite branches spread throughout the rest of AZ?
Could anyone direct me to some links to show how to do it proper?

EDIT: After readng about some of metricman's efforts on the BofA POI : This might be more than I can handle.

EDIT #2: Found a lot of great info in this thread "Help In Creating a New POI FIle" http://www.poi-factory.com/node/37014
And this of course: "POI Files | How to make custom pois using Google Earth?" (link no longer available)

So I guess the the only question I have now is
, would there be any interest in a DSFCU POI?

I agree

POIs are for personal use

POI files are for personal use, so develop ones that meet your needs and wants. Then decide if you want to share. I wouldn't worry about others needing a particular file. I'd do it for myself.

It depends

Is DSFCU part of the CO-OP Credit Union network or the PLUS Credit Union network? I visit Phoenix frequently, and have been disappointed by how many of the Credit Unions in the area charge for the use of their ATM by non-members.

There is a CO-OP ATM POI file on this site, but it was last updated in January of 2010. Accordingly, a DSFCU POI file that is actively maintained would be of interest to me if the DSFCU ATMs do not charge members of other FCUs that belong to the CO-OP or PLUS networks.

Thanks for asking about interest.

With best wishes,

My son and I...

My son, no longer a teenager, tends to use Chipotle, In-N-Out, and Home Depot the most.

For me, it's In-N-Out, Trader Joe's. I was in a different part of the county earlier in the week, and used both Home Depot and In-N-Out to get the goodies I needed, followed by lunch.

Then it was that favorite for everyone--

Home!

From your list could one believe your scoot needs a lot of repairs and you prefer to wait at the other locations while it's being fixed?

LOL. Just like to pick-up t-shirts from the different HD dealers, and like Dunkin Donut coffee when I'm travleing. DD&D to explore different restaurants instead of the same old chain offerings.

Like !

I like that one, Box Car...........I'm going to use it.

Yuppie Food Coupon Dispenser

A lot of hungry folks out here...

So far the tread I see is that it’s all about the food!

I am wondering, When you travel, do you put together a few places of your choices from the internet, book, or jus word of mouth... Example is, lets say your traveling from NY to FL, would you put tighter a poi file that has your choice of restaurants, hotels, places to see.

I use my own custom POI

We make four long trips each year. I have a file that I load for each one of the trips. It contains restaurants, motels, important via points & fun things to see or do along the way. During the year I might add locations from word of mouth or research on the internet. Many of the locations were places we visited in the past.
I put the file in a sub-folder named attractions.

When on a road trip

Rest Area (TourGuide 10,560'), Redlight Camera (660'), Cracker Barrel (TourGuide 10,560'), Pets Welcome Lodging...then food, etc. as needed.

Politicians and Diapers must be changed often for the exact same reason...

Favorite POI

Rest area's is my first choice. In fact i've added a few spaces in front of the name in order to be first on the list.White castle is favorite of mine also

Mike

When we are out of town,

When we are out of town, we'll check to see if there's any Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives in the area..

On the road.... Cracker Barrel as a TourGuide.

We've also used Trader Joe's for food, and Popeye's Chicken for lunch...

--
A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Coffee, WiFi & Food

Starbucks for the 1st &/or 2nd, McD for the 2nd (rarely eat there) and Cracker Barrel for the 3rd. This applies when I am on trips over a hundred miles at a stretch & just need the bare essentials to keep going. Going those distances I hardly ever had trouble finding ordinary rest stops.

Red light and speed camera

My favorite red light speed camera and if they would work rest area too..but some they are not accurate.

Are you using the file from this site? Have you sent the corrected coordinates for any POIs to MrKenFL? He does a great job updating the file.

The various restaurant files and attraction files like parks, museums, places to visit, off beat attractions, etc.

Chase Bank ATMs

This is very handy when traveling. Diners, Drive-ins and Dives is good too.

Several

RedLight likely gets the most actual use as I go through these daily.

But for manual POI's my favorite is Costco Gas, Offbeat Tourist Attractions, and Combined Rest Stops.

Costco Gas traveling is almost always a good bet for price. Offbeat Tourist Attractions is just fun to run and see what pops up when in a new place.

There are plenty more that get some use too but these are my most used/favorites.

Panera Bread...

my beloved wife of 42 years loves this place...It makes her angry when I refer to it as "Saint Louis Bread Company" (BTW Saint Louis MO is where it originated) it's my own small way of getting even for any frustration she has caused me throughout the years!

"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

Fav POIs

I could say Red Light cameras, except that on Long Island it seems that every red light has a camera now so I stopped looking for the alert. Rest Areas of course, and also Trader Joes.
