Popular Content

I hope this is the right place for this and I hope it goes off on a different tangent than the "Favorite POI" thread.

I have an incredible amount of geocoded information and much of it is begging to be published. That said, much of it needs to be munged to make it ready for prime time, so there is work involved.

I currently have two filesets up. One is a listing of Digital TV locations and the other is TropRock Bars.

Nobody has downloaded the Bars dataset, but the TV dataset has seen a little action.

To me, this seems almost shocking. Sure the Bars are regional and (more or less) a niche market. After all, not everyone wants to hang out on a warm tropical beach with a cold beverage and listening to great music, but come on-nobody? Really?? Nobody

So, what kind of content do you see a need for on this site?

I also guess this is related so I'll ask it in this thread, too.

How much of the information in the GPX file do you use? I mean it is certainly possible to include an encyclopedia of information about each entry including a Web link and a phone number. A Web capable device can go directly to the site for more information and a Mobile Device can use the number to dial a phone for a reservation at a restaurant, for instance.

Does anyone use these features or would they find them useful?

Digital TV locations

I maintain a file named TV Towers. It has been downloaded 47 times. I created it because a fellow camper out in the woods described problems orienting his antenna to enable scanning his flatscreen for local channels. He mentioned the network and TV band and the channel number as being important. I included them in my file.
I did receive feedback from a member here saying it worked great for him.
I just downloaded your troprock file. When the file first appeared, I did not look at it. The info looks good.
Don't get discouraged if the file is not popular. Seems like all the popular ones are already in use.

Television Towers

Sorry, I didn't see it because it was under structures which I never thought to search before I uploaded my file.

Also, the source of the data must have been different because it has different information that I had access to.

The list of NTSC-TV stations from the FCC is quite interesting because it is extremely has so many licensed sites. Perhaps secondary towers to bring signals to remote areas? Some are extremely low power.

Still, I hesitate to work on something like "Wrecks of the Keys" or "Key West's Hidden Secrets" if nobody is interested.

Think of who would be interested in a file such as "Wrecks of the Keys." The vast majority of GPS users in these forums use them in autos so, are the points in your file accessible by car or boat? I don't know how many Wal-Marts would be accessible by boat, but I know all can be reached by road.
