LM question

I purchased lifetime maps for my nuvi 260W two years ago. At one point in the not-too-distant past, while attempting to download the newest map, I received a message that I lacked sufficient space for the entire d'load, so I was "given" the Lower 49 maps.

Since then I have done some deleting and made adequate space; however, when I am offered the newest maps, the only choice is the Lower 49.

Your thoughts, assistance...?

Thanks, Bob Fort

Memory Size

As newer maps come out, the size of them keep increasing in size, thus is you only have 1 or 2 GB total, you may never get the full North America map anymore unless you go to a MicroSD card.

Before trying what follows, after your deletions, can you tell us how much free space your nuvi 260W now has? You almost certainly need to have deleted all non-English voice, text and help files. Deleting the unneeded voice files will gain you the most room.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try. On an early window during the installation, there's a box in the lower left hand corner called "Install Options." Click it, then you'll be given the option of what and how much of the map you want to install. See what happens if you click the topmost one called North America rather than 48-states, etc.

Option #2 is to look through the forum messages here. You will find instructions for installing all or part of a new map to a SD card in your nuvi, thereby giving you the full North America. To be able to do this, you need to check the box under "Install Options" during your map update that says something like "Install to device and computer" since you may be using a computer-based full North America map to create a map file on your SD card to be used by the nuvi. Others are more familiar with this procedure since I haven't had to do it.

A 260W has 2GB memory, if I

A 260W has 2GB memory, if I recall. Therefore if he gets rid of all unused voices and unused text he will have enough room for all of North America, with 50-55MB free space remaining. He shouldn't need to split the map between internal and external memory at this time, though in three months or so that may change.

I have the 265 with 2gb and the maps installed complete to the GPS. Had deleted text, help, vehicles and voice files in the past.
