New Award

Just the feeble mind of an old man thinking but this week RT has been an ACTIVE member for 5 years. Quite a few others are also in this category.
I propose that a special badge be awarded to all who have reached 5 years of ACTIVE membership.

Just a simple "5" badge would be nice to show their longevity as supporting members !

Just my thinking !

I agreee it would be nice to recog. ones that stayed around for that long and also stayed active.

Heck, we've tossed that idea before !

I'm far from considering myself as active and long-lasting as RT (my apologies for buying a GPS AND finding this site only one year and 39 weeks ago, so quite a few years later than he did, and congrats to RT on both accounts, of course).

The same notion had been discussed previously, on this topic for example

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/32410

I was all for it then, and still am. But the decision would be in Jon's hands.

Oh - and how many active / registered users does POI Factory treat to new info every day ? Can Jon give us that info ?

Don't forget Robert F.

ROBERT F. BREUNING has been around for 5 years, 15 weeks. He pops in upon occasion as well. At user #48, he's a granddaddy here. (Of course as I write this, he's inactive...) sad

Wow, that is a long time. Hard to believe it has been 4 yrs and 3 weeks for me.

I all for it, some companies give 5 yr award, so I hope Jon can put this on his to-do list.

If it is not too much work

If it is not too much work for those that run this site, the 5-year badge seems like a nice acknowledgement of participation and incentive to continue participating. Of course, they may need 10-year badges, etc.

Yes, I agree and shouldn't

Yes, I agree and shouldn't it be a cash award of at least $1000.00? Well, maybe I was a bit hasty on that one...lol.

:)

I support it - even if it is up for reconsideration. IT is a good way to recognize the efforts of those who contribute to keep the site active.

Here we go again. Why stop there? Maybe 1 year badge, 2 year badge, 3 years and 4. Don't want to
discriminate.
They give you badges in AA too. I'm glad to be here and have no need for any of this "years of service stuff". I have this notion though, that this topic is going to come up again and again. Lets get it over and done with. JM?

Sounds Like a Good Idea

I'm about 18 months away from the 5 year point, but I think a simple circle 5 would be a nice way of recognizing longevity here. I think 5 years is a good milestone, because most folks who are active for that long are the backbone of this (or any) website.

long term participation

I think it would be nice to recognize long term participants on the site.

I'm leaning towards something based on total number of weeks with posting or file maintenance activity rather than just how long a user has been registered on the site.

Perhaps we can come up with some way of calculating "years of participation". Maybe something like (weeks with activity) / 52 ...

Or maybe recognize milestones like 100, 200 weeks of participation ...

Jonathan

And do you remember when it all started ?

Some sleuthing...

Here are some "official" dates for POI Factory:

Domain: poi-factory.com

August 10, 2006
registered the domain name

September 29, 2006
open to the public, first visitor registered

So the official anniversary will be on September 29th.

Now THAT gives a better scale to the membership length, innit ?

It can be a bit difficult at times to stay active, I put a note in all of my POIs that I might not update until June. Didn't want anyone to think they are abandoned if I'm not on for a long period of time.

Wonder if I could get another for my "Keeping Your Windmill Alive" topic becoming standard topic. So many flare possibilities.

If any of you are members of fatwallet, you'll see they really go overboard with flare.

This is a good idea, but could this be in addition to a 'multiple year award'?

Sometimes, at my age, one can't be constantly active; sometimes we have to take time out for 'cancer surgery' and a '4-way bypass'.

Thanks, MrKenFL, for mentioning this. I'm just thankful I'm still around to enjoy this fantastic website!
