Informal "mp3 player" poll question...

Hi everybody,

I like to conduct an informal poll, asking the question… “would you like to see the MP3 players back in the GPS units? just place an “X” on the appropriate line.

Yes...

Thanks for your time…

Dont use it

And both our vehicles have phone, MP3, Blue and aux thru our radio. Its nice as you can use radio volume to increase phone or any other input volume.

I think the way things are going, most vehicles will have all this so why pay for it in a GPS that you buy for "Navigation"???

Not Anymore

No.

It used to be important to me, but even though I still have that feature on my GO 930, I have not used it in a long time. My BMW has a built-in player and I use my cell phone as an MP3 player in my other car while at home. When I'm traveling, most rental cars have a connection to play it through the car speakers.

MP3

It was one of the major reasons I got a 660. I thought I would use it, but I really don't. of course, I still listen mostly to AM radio while I'm driving...

Yes

I use it on my Zumo 550, wish my 3790 had it.

Yes. My 350 has it but not

Yes. My 350 has it but not my 1350.

If restoring the MP3 function is what it takes to get the audio out jack restored then have at it.

no, the mp3 players they

no, the mp3 players they make now are so much smaller and sound so much better

No

With the newer cars I think MP3 players in a GPS will soon become obsolete. The last vehicle I bought will play MP3s off a memory stick, or I can burn them to an erasable CD and play them through the CD player.

As I've said before they should take all of the none GPS features off the GPSr and put the GPS features they have taken off the older models back. Or at least make one model that fits that description.

Basically a StreetPilot

Sounds like you're in the market for a c340... grin

Don't really care, but don't

Don't really care, but don't think it will make a difference to most people.

Most people will have radio, satellite (Sirius), smartphone w/ built in music player, or cheapo mp3 like a Sansa player for $20 or so.

YES

I say yes, especially since I've been working a solid week to add POI alert wav files to my Nuvi 1100 LM with no success.

Mp3 files are smaller and easier to work with.

If anyone knows how to Fix the Nuvi 1100 I would love to hear from you.

No, but...

I've never had, or even touched, an MP3 player, so not having that function on my Nuvi 1450 is no big deal.

Have you looked at all the FAQ's?

Are all the files named the same?
Dunkin Donuts.csv
Dunkin Donuts.bmp
Dunkin Donuts.wav

Are they in the same folder?
Do you have sox-14-0-1.exe in the same folder as the POI loader?

Yes

I don't use it as a music player, but I use it for alerts. And it's a whole lot less hassle than having to use SOX.

Sent you a PM with the procedure on how to organize and load files - including a link to the correct version of SOX which must be used.

.

NO -

I had a 760 once upon a time and rarely used it because the sound quality was bad and there was no EQ feature. Almost all cars have connectivity for mp3 players whether direct or blue tooth these days (my new one even has an SD card slot for audio files) so IMHO there is no need - I would much rather have the computing resources available for better graphics and faster response time.

Had one with, had one

Had one with, had one wihtout, don't need it, just need more wav files & can make my own so no.

play MP3's on GPS unit

I wish the manufacturers would put this cability back in. I had it with my Garmin Nuvi 350, now it's not available in the Nuvi 2595. I loaded up a SD card(s) with my favorite songs, popped it into the navigator, and enjoyed commercial-free music while it announced turns and directions. Connects to car radio via aux input. Used on airplanes with headphones. I don't own an iPod, I realize that's why they deleted the capability. But it costs next to nothing to put it back in. They already have the software. An SD slot costs maybe $10. Just do it.

No, have mid-range indash 6X

No, have mid-range indash 6X disk player in one vehicle, single player in another. Simply pop in new set of self burned disk & I'm good for another 500 miles. (Not interested in a GPS w/ Bluetooth either.)

My Garmin Nuvi 350 plays mp3

My Garmin Nuvi 350 plays mp3 files, but also silences the music when navigation instructions are being given. I'd like to see that kind of mp3 cabability resurrected.

We are talking pennies in cost here.

Wonder how Garmin determined that it wasn't popular enough. Maybe it was a royalty or legal problem.

I would say it is no

I have an Ipod which has 2633 songs on it from the good old times to Jazz favorites. It plays through my car radio and fits in my glove box where no one can see it so I know it will not be stolen. It would be a bigger problem to have a 5 inch item on the dash and having to put it away every time I stop while doing errands and not having to use the GPS.

My answer has shifted to no

Now that I have an iPhone, I find that it is preferable to use that in the car instead of the music on the nuvi 760

Nuvi 3597 LMT

Okay but...

What about us folks who don't have a car radio that will play CD's or a radio without an AUX input? Why should I have to pay $400 + for a radio that will play CD's or one that has an AUX input. I've got a $12 FM transmitter that I plug into the earphone jack that works great in my 2006 Toyota and my 2000 Merc. If my 750 quits then I will have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a new car or at least a thousand to replace the radios in my cars to regain what I have now. Why can't Garmin add mp3 to one version of each product line, charge a few bucks more and let us choose which we want?
