Hi everybody,

I like to conduct an informal poll, asking the question… “would you like to see the MP3 players back in the GPS units? just place an “X” on the appropriate line.

Yes.

My 680 has that feature and I use it all the time. Sorry it is gone.

Most of the respondents to your poll will be "Yes". Those who don't use it or don't care won't bother to respond.

At what additional cost?

I don't need the mp3 as long as wav files can be loaded with sox to my custom POIs.

mp3 would be nice to have but without knowing the cost increase to buy the device with the feature, I can't offer a yes or no to your survey.

Or...phrased another way since most folks suggest that Garmin has a license fee to pay to include mp3 capability, how much more for a particular Garmin GPS model would you be willing to pay to have mp3 available? For me, it'd be less than $5.

No

Yes

I use it all the time in my 660 & have had no desire to buy a newer unit because of this missing feature. I've even replaced the battery & had the touch screen replace to keep it running.

Affirmative

There's a good possibility of a Nuvi 2595 in my future- more is less...

You might want to look at all the reviews on bestbuy.com

Sure, why not?

Seems like it would cost next to nothing to implement . . .

Don't Care

Only time I ever used it was while on a flight. Wanted to see where we were at and at the same time was listening to music. At the time, my phone didn't have an mp3. Now it does so probably will never use the GPSr's mp3 player again. Nice to have just in case though.

I would care for it if the mp3 sound files for warnings are smaller than the .wav files installed by sox. Otherwise no, specially if it will "slow down" the gps unit while playing music. Too many devices with that capability already.

Do something original!

Try making my nuvi play music from my phone using BT, and broadcasting it over the FM receiver. I think that would be a lot simpler, make more sense, and cheaper.

Mind you, Smartphone Link for Android may well be the first step in that.

This would just be yet another device that i would have to (or decide not to) synchronize with my music library.

poll question

yes (qualified)

I would not use it for music etc but mp3 files for poi locations are much smaller files.

Pulling out the MP3 capability was a step backward. Especially for POI sounds, fooling around with making WAV files compliant is tedious.

I have mp3 capability with my current Nuvi and I never use it. There are better ways to play mp3's in your own vehicle, about the only use I could imagine for mp3-via-gps is for a rental car.

For the very few times I use a player in the car, I use iTouch. Absolutely see no reason to use a GPS' mp3 features outside the car.

An MP3 player is really nice. I think it is easier to set up POI's using MP3's instead of .wav files.

Not for me

I prefer using my iPhone. I have 5,610 mp3 files on it and the UI on it is far superior to what is on my Garmin 760.

I use a TuneLink to broadcast both my iTunes and the navigation information from the TomTom app I have on my iPhone to my radio. I seldom use the 760 anymore.

I use a Mountek CD Slot Mount to hold my iPhone.

Here's a LINK to what it looks like in my car.

Wow, the flash sure makes my screen protector look crappy. :)
