can you temporaily turn off audio alerts

I have a Nuvi 350 and a Nuvi 50 LM

Is there a way to turn off the audio alerts without reloading with POI loader.

I like having rest stops alerted when I go on long trips, but not for general day to day driving.

see manual

look at page 51 of your nuvi 350 manual

see page 20 of your nuvi 50 manual

Mute--

For brief periods, I just mute the sucker.

(19th Ave going through San Francisco to the Golden Gate - endless repetitions of "NOW APPROACHING A RED LIGHT CAMERA!")

I use the mute function as well

When traveling with young children late at night, I will use the mute function. (I also have a 350.)

I do the same thing... or at least turn the volume WAY down low.

at least a coupla units do

A coupla units I have seen allow for turning off the audio alerts. My 765t can be turned off under tools/settings/POI Alerts. The ability to cut off audible alerts is very desirable, expecially in big cities. For example, I used to have a ghost tours POI, with a audible alert set to 1320 ft. That is only 1/4 mile set up as a TourGuide, but when driving through Philadelphia, which is rated as the most haunted city in America, it is quite annoying!! I very quickly learned how to cut off my sound alerts!!

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Different in mine.

On my 765t it's called Proximity Points/ Proximity Alerts/ Change. There I can turn the alerts on or off but that takes a lot of key pushing. It's faster to just mute the unit.

Leave sound file out

If you want to permanently turn it off:

Leave the sound file out of the directory when you load the POI file. That is, unless the Garmin map has an alert.

I want to turn some POI's

I want to turn some POI's off while leaving some still on. I don't think this can be done with the 50 LM unless you hook it up to the computer each time and use POI loader
