is not a boat GPS

You can add the address once you get over that big pond or do NEAR function before the trip then save the address in Favorites and hit GO once you land there.

Is the Map for Hawaii on your 205?

Do you have the FULL North American maps on your 205, or maybe just the continental 48? It is possible that your 205 does not have Hawaii maps loaded, and you will not see Honolulu.

Incorrect Map?

I do believe that is the problem, no map coverage for Hawaii. I can bring up Honolulu on my 2460 that covers US, Canada & Mexico.
Strangely enough if I type in Waikiki nothing comes up for that town. Waikiki is probably the most popular tourist spot in all of the Hawaiian Islands.
Yet if I type in Hilo (Big Island) that appears.

I've been to Hawaii, Maui was my favorite, Oahu too commercialized for my taste.

I was there a year ago, waikki beach was way over-rated. Too small, crammed with drunk tourists. We found a larger and completely empty beach on the north side which was awesome. We drove the entire way around the southern road in mahimahi, very nice drive.

Neighborhood

Waikiki is a neighborhood, I learned something
today.

You may want to look at Garmin's site

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=276&pID=37090

May give you what you need.

Mark

it has the map

The 205 unit will work there

from Garmin site:
◦nüvi 205
◦Preloaded City Navigator® NT data for the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico (no Alaska or Canada detail) or one European region or country (click versions tab to view all)

.

Remember that when you get to Hawaii your gps will take a while to find the sats. So before you start driving, turn on the gps and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to get a sat fix.

Which is right?

Under "Features" for the 205 it says....

"nüvi 205 comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT map data for the contiguous U.S. or one European region or country (click versions tab to view all)."

Does it say in the Nuvi's what map coverage you have?

Unless

@johnr2265
What is the year of the map version you are using?
I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall on some of the older North America maps Honolulu wasn't on them.
Makes little sense to omit Honolulu.

Have you tried entering other cities such as Hilo or Lahaina? If these appear then you have a map of Hawaii but does not include Honolulu.

it has Hawaii

Box Shows Hawaii

I understand the box shows Hawaii but that map could have been altered on a subsequent map update with Mapsource. Perhaps he left out Hawaii to save space, maybe he's not the original owner of the Nuvi and previous owner modified the map.

The OP needs to post again and provide some additional information so we can pinpoint the problem.

On my 260 with nt2008 I can do NEAR "Honolulu" then POI Spell Name and it finds Waikiki Beach and a whole bunch stuff with the name Waikiki

NEAR: Honolulu
then find address: after the address is found he can't hit GO untill he is in Hawaii but he can hit Save and place it in Favorites

If he is looking for Waikiki that is not a town but a POI that can be found by Spell Name

If the discontinued 260 has it and his 205 indicates that it is included he should have no problem using it there.

you can punch the address but don't hit GO do a Save instead and it will be placed in Favorites, once you are there you can pull up the address stored in Favorites and hit GO (the reason it comes back with an error in the mainland is the chunk of water between here and there has no streets in it)

PUNCH THE ADDRESS

THAT DOES NOT WORK, BECAUSE WHEN IT ASKS FOR THE STATE IT SAYS HAWAII IS NOT AVAILABLE,WHEN I DO NEAR TO HONOLULU THERE IS NOWHERE TO PUT AN ADDRESS !! WHEN I LOOK IN THE TAB IN THE BOX, IT DOES'NT EVEN INCLUDE CANADA.

no canada

The map on the 205 doesn't include Canada & Alaska.
Let me write step by step what you need to do and send it to you in an e-mail, in the mean time read my posts above and you may figure it out.

step by step

Step by step as I do it with my 260

Unit on
Tap on Where to?
Tap on Near... (at bottom of screen)
Search Near... Highlight "A Different City"
Tap OK
type Honolulu (it gives you a few choices)
Tap on "Honolulu. HI" (once the screen changes)
Tap on Address
"In What State/Province is the Address?"
Tap "Hawaii"
Tap "Spell City"
type Honolulu screen will change
Tap Honolulu. HI
ej. 123 (use a valid house number)
Tap Done
ej. Brokaw St (use your valid street name)
The address will then show up with a Go! button, don't tap the Go! Button instead while in Canada tap the Save button. That Address will now be saved in your favorites with the name you give it. (ej. Hilton Hotel)

This part will only work once you land in Hawaii and give the unit time to acquire the satellites
Turn the unit on (wait for acquisition) and Tap Where To?
Tap Favorites
The address you saved back in Canada will be there with the name you gave it ej. Hilton Hotel
Tap on it and then Tap Go! And just go have a good time.

Let me know if the step by step instructions worked for you.

Shouting doesn't help.

No need to shout in all caps. We can read you just fine without it.

The 205W, as you note, doesn't include Alaska, Canada or Mexico. Yet it should have Hawaii. Just don't expect the same level of coverage as in the continental US. The data for Hawaii is "unverified government data", whatever that means.
