Looking for a case for the 2460

I'm looking for a case to protect my new 2460. I want something that will give me protection and slimline.

I order the below recommend case on Amazon when I order my 2460 but this thing is HUGE. I could easily stick two 2460 in there and still have room. Not sure why Amazon recommended the case for a 5" GPS

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Hard-Carrying-5-Inch-Blac...

Can anyone recommend anything similar or another style low profile case?

Steve

.

Have you looked at an actual Garmin case? They're about the slimmest I've see, and have decent armour as well.

This is the one I use, but got it for $2.00 at a Walmart clearance! Has internal storage for SD cards, and 3 compartments.

Garmin 5" case

I bought the actual Garmin 5" case and am very pleased with the purchase. It is well made, and slim in design. You CANNOT store anything else other than the GPS. I don't need to store SD cards since the one I use will be inside the unit.

I looked on Amazon and discovered they had two 5" cases with the same model # 010-11577-01.
One sells for 29.48, the other for 15.99.
The 29.48 model was the original and has a metal locking clasp and when opened a clear window that you can operate the GPS from within the case.
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-5-Inch-Carrying-Case-Black/dp/B...

The 15.99 is the latest model which Garmin lists on their site, they both look quite the same, but this one has a Velcro locking flap and does not have a viewing window.
I wanted to buy the 29.48 one but reconsidered thinking it's too pricey for a case. The 15.99 one has free shipping but you would need to buy something else to reach the 25.00 free shipping requirement. Here is the 15.99 link:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Universal-5-Inch-Carrying-Case/...

I bought the same 15.99 one for 11.95 plus 2.00 shipping, still cheaper than the Amazon one and don't need to buy anything else since I'm paying 2.00 for the shipping.
The place I got it from shipped immediately and arrived in a few days, great service. Here's the link:

As stated I like the case, the GPS is well protected, and I can slip it into my pocket. If you need storage this is NOT the case for you.

I looked at one Garmin case at Walmart or Target but it was different then the one with the velcro flap. This one may work. I want to be able to slip it in my pocket. I have no need for storage.
I added it to my Amazon wish list for now.

Will the Garmin case protect the gps if I drop it?

I used a old vertical Palm case with a velcro flap for my old 760 and that worked out great.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Garmin 5" Case

It should offer good protection if dropped since the leather is quite thick, but not as much proetection as a hard case. The hard case will be too large to put in your pocket.

I checked out Target and can't find any 5" Hard cases. But their site does show a 5" 1450LT that includes the 5" Garmin case. Here you can see the case opened up. Under more views (top right), click on the right arrow until you see the case, then click on it.
The velcro is thick and holds tightly.

As for Walmart, I could only find one 5" case on their site and it's not a Garmin. For the $15.54 price, it costs more than I paid for mine. It's composed of material and looks cheaply made.
It will not offer as much protection as the leather Garmin.

Maybe others can offer more suggestions but I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Here is one for $10

This one looks decent for a basic case and it's only $10:

Other things I've purchased of the "Amazon basic" brand have been good. There was also one I found with a simple search on Amazon that had an extra mesh pocket for other stuff and was hard like this with a zipper all around and it is $15.

I have two of the Garmin stretchy cases and one zippered case for my 3 4.2 inch garmins. I prefer the harder case with it's zipper - and it was the cheapest. I use it for my 885t - my favorite of my 3. It seems the most protective and it never actuates the power switch.

Garmin is too thick

That's the case I have. It's big enough to hold two 2460. It's a good 2 inches thick. It's to big to use and carry around. I though it was a slimline case when I ordered it.

Steve

wrong case

I like the looks of this case. Nice and slim.

I think I will check out Best Buy this weekend and see what they have before placing anymore orders.

Wonder if Amazon will supply a shipping label to send the old case back. I haven't used it but it was a recommend case that is too big to carry a 5" gps

Cases are hard to buy. Guess I'm fussy about a decent case.

Nice Case

The case is a nice one, similar to what I have on my Nuvi 660 and 765T. Those are Garmin Leather cases I paid about 7.00 for.

Just consider one drawback, the top is open and exposed, you can accidentally turn the power switch on or off when pacing or removing from case.
I always make certain to insert the GPS with the switch end going in first. This way when I remove it I never grab the switch side.

P.S. Never can figure out while some of the writing goes off the page. By quoting GeoScouter caused my text to go off also?

Case

My wife had an old Walk-man cassett player that came with a carrying case. I can put 2 gps in one pocket and all the wiring in another pocket. It has a shoulder strap that I put over my shoulder where I will not drop it. It works great.

Decided on case

I can't believe I spent so much time looking at cases. I went to Staples, Office Max, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and Sears. Most of the cases were bulky.

I saw the Garmin case but didn't care for it.

But I decided on the Lowepro LP36292. Just received it yesterday. Best Buy also carries it but they were out of stock at my location so I ordered it from Amazon.

Its well padded and pretty slim. It also has a micro-fiber cleaning cloth. The 2460 fits perfect.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H1RDBC

I very happy with it.

A bit late, but...

the Lowepro Navi Plus is an excellent case. Actually, it's two cases in one, a small removal pouch that fits the gps unit and a larger case that holds cables, windshield mount, SD cards, and other small accessories.

I am happy with the Garmin

I am happy with the Garmin soft case (sleeve) for my 2460. Adequate padding for backpack. Tight enough to not allow GPS unit to slide out. No magnet or velco.

removal pouch too small

The Navi Plus does look nice. But according to the comments on Amazon the removal pouch does not fit 5 inch models.

Amazon reviewer is wrong...

Er, yes it does. My 2595LMT agrees with me. wink

Do you know if the USB cable will fit inside as well, or is the case just for the Nuvi?

The removable pouch holds

The removable pouch holds just the GPS unit. The Navi Plus holds the pouch, power cable, USB cable, windshield suction mount, and spare SD cards.

It is a good case though I

It is a good case though I have had one for a few months and it is wearing. I keep it in the glove box, so it should not have.

5 inch models

Guess you can't believe all the comments. I might of gone with the bundle if I knew that. But I added it to my Amazon watch list

5" GPS Carrying Case

I use this case and I am very satisfied.

For $7.99 you can't beat it.
