interesting

Have too much vacation to burn up as we can only carry a week. Been off since Monday and it sure is boring and I actually worked 4 hours from home! This isn't the life that people have in mind anywhere else in the world, where they truly know how to relax and enjoy! smile

How is it going?

Lucky to have power here in SoCal. Some people have been without for 6 days now.

Getting some rain today.

It's colder in Palo Alto than in New York City!

Go figure.

Snow

We are getting some snow here. Unfortunately it is mixed with rain. There should be some snow that sticks in the mountains. Winter is settling in!!!

have a great week

stay well!

Power Outage in SoCal

What seems to be the problem restoring power in SoCal (I think it's parts of the Los Angeles area?). Not hearing much about it here in San Diego.

I have to say something...

about the "new wave parents," and probably many of you all fall into this category.

My wife and I were eating at one of the thousands of restaurants in San Diego the other evening and noticed a family being seated. They had a cute little girl of about 3 or 4 years of age, inquisitive as all of them are at that age. They got their menus and not a second later, they got out their Iphones, or whatever they had so snugly implanted in their hands, ignoring their little girl's questions and longings to be paid attention to, stared, motionless at their damned Iphones throughout the entire dinner, not even realizing that their daughter needed to eat. If you think I am being overly sensitive about this, I urge you to look at yourselves, or other diners when you dine out. We wonder why our children grow up the way they have, or why they have no “people skills” it’s our fault! By ignoring your children, you are telling your children that they are not as important as what you are doing, and to whom you are talking, shame, shame upon you, you can take 45 minutes out of your busy lives to pay attention to them, or they will look for attention from someone else, be afraid, very afraid!

If you have children, for crying out loud, leave your Iphones, or whatever you use in your pockets, you are eating dinner or lunch or even breakfast! . Talk to each other, talk to them you have precious little time with your children. Whatever they see you do, they will do. I am so fortunate that we did not allow our children to use ear buds, or ear plugs when they were with us, whether driving or walking. One daughter is a nurse, and the other is a French teacher, and when they pull these things out at our table, they either are excused from the table or put them away.

Please, for your children’s sake, take a look at yourselves, you are their role model, change before it’s too late!

Re: I have to say something...

I agree 100% with you. Most people are gadget idiots, through the day. They'd rather FB, IM, or text friends rather than see them in person! WTH?

this does not solve your problem, but when neices and nephews (4) got past "toys," Santa cut back. Depending on Ages, a $20.00 bill to each is nice, and you will save gas, money and time in the long run!

BTW what did you do last year to solve this mystery?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Winter

A dusting of snow this morning caused many tires to spin as folks turned the corner in front of the house. Good thing the clouds have parted and it has melted.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Friday again

The grandkids. All they want are electronic stuff. Take me back to marbles and checkers days. Seems like everybody wants the same games. Went to three stores to find one of them. They are called Skylanders Adventure packs. You put the figure on a special platform with a screen and it starts a game I guess.I was a little intrigue when watching the demonstration how the figure activates everything once you put it on the platform. The twins are 9 years old. What comes next?

Can't believe the year is almost done

Found this unusual...

Please excuse a few words here, But never the less, did you know...

Trucks of Dubai

In their haste to complete the world's highest tower it seems that the architects in Dubai overlooked an important detail.

The Poop Trucks of Dubai

Apparently Dubai doesn't have a sewage system for all those big new buildings. They must haul it all away. Each truck holds 10,000 gallons.

Look at the number of tank trucks --miles of them and not one moving. All wait to dump their load. They wait for days. That is a lot of no.2's

http://www.boreme.com/posting.php?id=31361

Dubai Sanitation from Wikpedia: Amazingly, Dubai doesn't have a sewage infrastructure to support its skyscrapers, including the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Drivers said they'd been queuing for three days! Unsurprising then, that many dump their loads into storm drains that lead directly to the open sea. Tourists are warned of the risk of contracting serious illnesses like typhoid and hepatitis if swimming on Dubai beaches.
