What does MTP stand for?

What does MTP stand for?

Ok, I will display my ignorance in order to let some others with the same questions as I have get some knowledge. The general topic is “hidden files” (in particular on the GPS device) and how to make them visible.

As many people know, one has to adjust the default settings on most PCs in order to view all of the files. One needs to uncheck "Hide protected system files"; then, check “Show hidden files and folders”. While in “Folder Options” , one also unchecks “Hide extensions for known file types” in order to avoid the possibility of double extensions while using POILoader.

I have a 765T. I do not seem to have a “.system” folder on my Nuvi.

I have been reading advice to people having, say, a 2495, about holding down the speed indicator for about 5 seconds in order to get into the Diagnostic screens, then scrolling down to and selecting MTP settings, then, checking Mass Storage, then saving and backing out.

Similar instructions involve, from the main screen, get into the master volume screen, then touching and holding the top right corner of the screen.

None of these techniques seem to work for my 765T. I can get to what I take to be diagnostic pages by holding down the battery indicator – but I do not see anything like MTP.

So:

(1) What does MTP stand for?

(2) Does my 765T have a MTP page within diagnostics and, if so, how do I access it?

jefft186 said that he could find his “.system” folder for his 1490T by using the “Folder Options” technique referenced above but was told to get to the MTP page on the 2595LMT in order to find it.

(3) Based on a very recent post from alandb, I am assuming that my 765T does not have a “.system” folder. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/34914

@alandb – have you made your post into a FAQ yet?

(4) Assuming I did have a “.system” folder, what would be its directory structure and what files does one find there?

MTP

I believe it stands for Media Transfer Protocol. I don't have a 765T, so I'm not familiar with it. I do have a 1490T and a 2595LMT. Only the 2595 has that MTP. If you did all those things that you mentioned above and you couldn't find that MTP, then you probably don't have it on your unit, and I wouldn't worry about it. smile
