Lifetime Map Updates (is it possible to purchase for TomTom?)

Is it possible to purchase Lifetime Map Updates for TomTom? There is nothing on the TomTom website and the listing on Amazon has very bad reviews.

How hard did you look on the TT website??

Notice though the reviews are pretty old. Given the cost of a new Garmin with lifetime updates vs the $99 for TomTom's service, it sounds like you'd be better off with a new Garmin.

My Reply.

There are several of the new TT models, that also come with Lifetime Map Updates.
Robert1775 asked a specific question & I gave him a specific answer.

I am not looking to buy a NEW TomTom or another GPS. I am STUCK and I do mean STUCK with an indash TomTom in a new vehicle and this is useless without lifetime maps. The TT website only offers Lifetime maps bundled with units but all other GPS companies offer an after purchase lifetime map subscription.

So I don't need a recommendation to buy a Garmin (I already have a Garmin) and I certainly don't want to buy another TT bundled with lifetime maps. All I want is a lifetime map subscription for the Tom Tom I am stuck with - which obviously from the responses and lack of responses does not exist.

Reading though this forum and the lack of activity in it, I am not sure why anyone would ever buy a Tom Tom.

This would have been a great thing to mention from the git-go. Less chat, more facts.

Just a thought, bud.

TT vs Garmin

TT rules in Europe, & Garmin rules in the US.

When I wanted to purchase...

a GPS, I researched what was available on the market at the time. I thought that Tom Tom was the one I would buy. I then turned to Consumer Reports to see what they had to say. In words of 2 syllables or less, they said "buy a Garmin." I took their advice and I remain supremely happy I did, and I've never regretted my initial decision. Now there are numerous GPS manufactures, but it’s still Garmin for me. As many in future will fall by the wayside, Garmin will still be makin' em!

I don't know when that was, but any Consumer Reports reviews I've seen in the last few years have said that both TomTom and Garmin make capable units. FWIW, I'm very satisfied with my TomTom.

Lifetime?

For a vehicle that could be "totaled" tomorrow, I'm not so sure I'd want to pay for a "lifetime" update.

five years ago. I am quite sure by now...they are. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. I did not mean to say that Tom Tom was inferior to Garmin, it's just that in the opinion of CR at that time, they were leaning towards Garmin, and recommended it.
