In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Literally around the world

The last two weeks have been a crazy time of planes trains and automobiles. I had to visit India and Korea for work. With the lay overs from the flights, I ended up in 5 countries in two weeks: Amsterdam (the Netherlands), 4 cities in India, Dubai (United Arab Emirates), the NW and SE side of South Korea and Japan. The flight plan went generally from West to East, except I had to back track to Dubai to get a flight from India to Korea.

I didn't have maps loaded for Korea or India & my company BB did not have navigation, but I used the Garmin to lock in locations, like hotels and sub stations, to help me keep my sense of direction if I was walking around an area.

It was a good experience and I solved the issue that required the trip, but it it always good to be back home.

I'm flying to Florida for vacation tomorrow for a week and almost don't want to get on the plane smile

Our most recent adventure

Garmin took us to a cute B & B in Falmouth (Cape Cod) Mass. and for a scenic tour of the coastline.

Portland, OR - City Block of Food

I made a trip out to Portland Oregon this week. I lived there back in the 1990s, and I noticed a lot has changed.

One unexpected change is all the food vendors downtown.

There's a city block that used to be just a parking lot that now has food vendors lined up all around the perimeter. They operate out of specially built trailers that have service windows facing out toward the sidewalk. The area is located between SW 9th & 10th and between SW Alder and Washington.

There's a whole lot of good food to choose from with just a quick walk around this block. It was cool the day I visited, so I had a nice cup of miso soup and some tuna rolls.

It was yummy smile

Since I have a new nuvi, I

Since I have a new nuvi, I used it while on a trip to Fish Pass near Port Aransas, TX, even though I had no question as to how to get there. No problems were encountered, but it was weird seeing a little FJ Cruiser in the Corpus Christi ship channel while I crossed the ferry.

Last Trip

Cleveland Ohio some junction views I don't recall from the last trip out there.

Yesterday my wife and I took

Yesterday my wife and I took a short trip to Lincoln's New Salem Historical Site in Illinois. Haven't been there in almost 30 years and got lost the last time I tried (without GPS). My Garmin took me right to the parking lot, via a Pizza Hut in Springfield along the way. No problems along the way. A year ago, we did get lost in the outskirts of St. Joseph, MO and I just told the Garmin to "take me home" and it did. I would still be driving around otherwise.

To and from work

Limited travel this past week, just to and from work with the Google nav app guiding me with regard to traffic. Hoping for clear travels on Thanksgiving!

Apples

Went to find a pick-u-own apple orchard for the first time.

Last Trip

Took mine to Palm Springs. We go there each summer, and went twice this year.

As usual, a few POI's (built in) were not 100% up to date. But for the most part, it always gets us where we want to go.

The past two years, we've debated whether it's taking us on the shortest path to get there. It takes us off the main freeway, through several towns in the inland empire. It's a nice drive but we aren't sure it's the shortest path.

Next summer, I'll probably compare routes on Mapquest.

Did you enjoy the Site

We drive by there, but have never scheduled it as a stop. Is it impressive? We recently toured the Lincoln Library & Museum in Springfield. It was enjoyable and we recommend it to everyone.

My wife had to go to Potomac

My wife had to go to Potomac Hospital from Virginia Beach. I used my Tomtom to navigate to the motel and the hospital. We also used it for resturants. Awhile back I programed the redbox kioses in it. My 13yr put the sound icon on it. Everytime we got closet to the motel (7-11 close) it went off..

Kymulga Grist Mill

Stocked up on one bag of white grits and one bag of yellow grits, freshly stone-ground at the mill.

Kymulga Grist Mill is among the POI on my Garmin 3760. It is located at 7346 Grist Mill Road, Alpine, AL 35014.

There is also a covered bridge at the same location. Kymulga Covered Bridge is listed under the "Alabama Covered Bridges" POI listing on this site.

Drove on new ICC in Maryland

On the way up to the in-laws' house in Delaware, we drove on the new ICC (Intercounty Connector), which opened Tuesday morning after 50-plus years of planning. Of course, the entire route does not show up in the GPS, but the westernmost 7-mile segment that opened in March does appear in the latest map update released a few weeks ago.

Chicago to Cape Girardeau

I drove back to Cape Girardeau tonight from Chicago along I-57. I'm sure glad that I was going in the opposite direction. There was a very long traffic jam of over 3 miles heading north on I57 around Effingham.

There were quite a few close calls as well with getting pulled over by the cops. I actually had a car right in front of me get pulled over by Cairo, IL, and I'm glad that I wasn't going over 65 at the time.

I'm not a fan of the speed traps that they set around Cairo, IL.

North As Usual

We spent the pre-Thanksgiving vacation in Sacramento.

Last

Trip was for Thanksgiving. A quick jaunt from SC to MD.

Why did you go through Cairo on your way to Cape Girardeau from Chicago?
