Does anyone use Clearwire.

How does the Clearwire data terminal connect to the internet? Is it via a cable or is it a wireless connection? (I'm not talking about the computer to data terminal connection). How does the upload/download speed compare to Quest? Is the cost per month about the same? Do you only use a Quest email address?

I don't have the box yet. get it tomorrow. You plug it into a outlet and the can use a ethernet cord or wireless as what they say. I have had qwest for years so I don't pay much but it is real slow and I had a hard time to get them to upgrad my line so I could get dsl. I am not sure I will keep clearwire or clear as they now call themselfes. I was reading that Sprint is getting away from them and that there is suppost to be a class action suit against them. Most people are saying they are haveing alot of problems with them. I am going to try it on one of our desktops but keep the other one on qwest. If I don't like it after the first week I will send it back and be done with them.

Clear is an adventure, that's the first thing I will say. Now I have had it since the beginning in the Wash DC Market. I have the USB Modem and I do use it as my Main Internet Connection. And I am a Heavy User, I would say over 200 GB per month. That being said.

1. IT IS NOT REALLY UNLIMITED. To explain. If you use more then the average subscriber determined by their standards, they can (and do) throttle your speed down during peak usage. I have seen my speeds drop down to .25 MBPS on a regular occasion. This is well known and documented on the internet. The reset is usually done at 2 AM EST and the usage clock starts fresh. If your a heavy Streaming Internet kind of person (NETFLIX for instance) this can be very frustrating

2. Weather does effect it. I experience allot of outages and poor performance during rainy and windy periods (Wind blows the trees)

3. Outages: The outages happen. More then I like. But then they happened with COMCAST. But they are definitely more frequent and usually longer on CLEAR.

4. WIMAX or LTE - Keep in mind that CLEAR has announced that they are starting to test and will implement LTE. How long? I don't know. But that does create a concern as to what happens to us WIMAX users (thought I would mention that )

OK, that's the major points that I thought Id toss up for you. If I think of more, I will post. But do your research in YOUR AREA. Find out from current users. I would not, repeat WOULD NOT get involved with a CLEAR Contract until I knew how others find it where you live. Ask around friends and neighbors and check out the forums. www.dslreports.com is a good forum to start at. Clear also has their own help forum and a Blog Site.

The box just plugs into the wall outlet and it is all wireless. You can use a ethrnet cable if your computor isn't wifi. Cost is more for me as I got qwest many years ago on a lifetime price. The upload/download seems faster now but don't know how it will be after the 30 day trial period. I use a msn and yahoo email address. I have all five light on on the modem and that is better than what my qwest modem shows. (again not sure how it will be in two months) I can have up to eight on at one time. and it is secure. I can also take it in my motohome and use it with the generator running. Haven't tried that yes.

will it work at airport if you can find a wall outlet?
knowing many airports are providing free wifi now, but not all of them.

I haven't had it long enough to try it anywhere but the house. What they said was it there was a signal them you could use it and you can also get the usb moden for your laptop that will use 4G or 3G. I haven't gone that far yet.

I also am thinking if I can use it in car, where I have 115v AC outlet. Would be nice if I can use it with my laptop when travel.

They have a usb modem that you can use with the laptop better than the home modem as it is kind of big to set in a car It is 6" wide and 9" tall. about the size if a kindle or tablet.
