Two in a series Both 4's release with problems
Apple always said that products would not be released until perfect and here we have a second phone which is anything less that perfect.
Steve would be real proud of two blunders in a row first Antennagate now the Battery Burner.
And this battery one doesn't have a fix, Wait a few weeks while we try to figure it out and patch the OS.

Battery
My 4S had been working pretty well and then I started getting bitten by the battery bug. Add to that the abysmal 3G performance on Sprint and it has been less than a stellar experience. However, I am sort of married to the iOS world as I also have an iPad 2 and an iPod Touch 4. Switching to Android now would require new purchases of various apps, assuming they are available on that platform.
I do not really fault Apple for the problems. I will fault them for their response to problems. As a developer myself, you learn that you can never find all the bugs yourself. You can have as many code reviews as you want, but a clever customer will still find a way to make something go wrong. iOS is an incredibly complicated platform. That being said, if Apple waits until late December to fix the current crop of iOS 5 bugs, then that is unacceptable. It is acceptable IMHO to have the occasional bug pop up. It is not acceptable to take exceptionally long periods of time to fix them.

Siri commercials
What do you guys think about the siri commercials? Is it just me or are the people in them portrayed as letting technology replace their brains?

Turned Off

Siri is turned off by default and I have left it off for the most part. The few times I have tried asking it things, has been just to test it out. I am more comfortable typing than asking a device questions though that is probably because I have spent the last 33 years interacting with computers with my hands. However, the iPhone Google app does have a voice recognition interface and that I have used with pretty good success.
Younger people may get off on using Siri but it is not a "must have" feature for me.

iPhone 4S, Sees Rise in Audio Bug Reports
First came “yellowgate” — reports of users who were seeing a golden tint on their screens. Next came “batterygate“; as Apple eventually admitted, some of the location services in iOS 5 (which comes pre-loaded on the 4S) were causing the battery to drain faster than normal. Last week, Siri, the intelligent voice assistant baked into the iPhone 4S, was unable to connect to its servers for the better part of a day.
Meanwhile, a growing number of 4S users have found a significant audio bug: On some calls, they cannot hear the person on the other end.

I really like buttons!
Great point Aardvark. I never thought of how many years I've spent interacting with electronics with my hands it explains why I have to have a keypad on my phone. I guess I really like buttons.

I've own the Blackberry
I've own the Blackberry (BOLD model, which has the BEST keyboard) and I currently own the 4S. After using the Iphone for the last 2 years I do not miss the Blackberry keys at all. BTW, there are addon KB's that you can add to the Iphone without adding bulk.
Real Estate
I can see where a good keyboard is something to behold, but in a hand held form factor, space and volume rule.
Since the device is also intended for full screen graphics, when the keyboard is not needed, it has to go, hence a software keyboard. Otherwise the device is limited to a really small screen and permanent hard keyboard.

I still prefer my Android
I still prefer my Android over any iPhone but my wife has decided to hold out for the iPhone5.
Work
My wife and I got a pair of iPhone 4s, (our first smartphones ever) because Apple is the platform of choice at my work. Combining our old voice plans saved us $20 per month and adding data was only $30 more. Include the $85 per phone discount we got (again my work), so, other than the initial outlay for the hardware, I'm paying $10 per month more than than I was before for just voice and now we get data. We're both happy with them.

Is that At&T or Verizon?
Even with my 22% discount at Verizon I'm still undecided if I should continue with my dumb phone or join the smart crowd.

Can you do a trial?
It's hard to know if you need one or not.
But after living with a smartphone I can never go back.
You have to evaluate the features: information look up, email, calendar access, GPS / directions, social, etc etc.

Moved to 4S recently
After years of carrying a "dumb" phone (no camera, web browser, or built-in bottle opener) I got a 4S around Thanksgiving.
Very happy I did -- I'd been carrying an iPod, and the phone (and a camera in my backpack) -- now I carry the iPhone, ditched the camera and the iPod.
The old phone had bluetooth but barely worked with my car. With the iPhone, the integration is superb.
Still carry my swiss army knife for (among other things) the bottle opener...

Wife is happy with 4s
My wife purchased verizon's 4s as soon as it was released. She is very happy with it.
I had advised her to wait for the iphone 5 which should support the faster 4G data. But, she had been waiting a long time.
Now I use her hand-me-down droid-x.

Still Lovin' the 4S
Had mine since shortly after it came out. Still enjoying it.
Been using Navigon a little more. Liking it more too. Just not the same as my 60CSx.
Overall, this iPhone is very useful, I can not think of a drawback, or wish it had anything else. The next iPhone will probably be 4G LTE, which will bring with it even greater capability and autonomy.
The camera is pretty good. Probably as good or better than what most people have already. Using it with iCloud is awesome. Photostream is great.
It's not just about the handset, it's all that goes with it.

More of a hardware augmentation than an "app", but it gets the job done.
