Problems Converting from Google Earth KML to OV2, keeping all info

I'm trying to create my own POI list of military exchange and commissary locations to load into my VW RNS-510 headunit. The 510 can import OV2 files through it another program called POInspector.
Anyway, for the past couple of days, I've been gathering the GPS coordinates and addresses on Google Earth and Bing maps (sometimes Google just doesn't have correct, up to date maps, thus the spill over). I've been trying to convert the file format using POI Editor, but POI Editor only seems to import the GPS position and name, and ignores everything else.
I also have a Garmin Zumo for my motorcycle, so I would love be able to take these files and load it onto it as well eventually.
Can anybody suggest a better method for me?
Have not worked wit OV2
Have not worked wit OV2 files but according to all the posts I have seen it requires 3 columns. You can try this with Extra Poi Loader. Before you open the file in Extra Poi Editor go to Options in EPE and select M Column CSV Fields, then you will see the column numbers .Make sure column 3 has Name and all columns after that select (not used).1 AND 2 will have the coordinates. Now open your file in EPE and hopefully you will see in the column name, the name and all other info.If yes select save as a OV2. If not you are going to have to open the file up in something like notepad and change how you have it laid out so EPE can put data in correct column format.Commas in the wrong place will get the wrong results.Would need to look at the file on your lay out.Maybe just post one location here on how you have it set up now.

I am new to poi...Have used G. Earth...if I remember you gan select a spot on map and save GPS coordinates ... Not sure if they can be coppied or saved to a file where U could upload TO POI AS I don' t know how to upload a "coordinate " in tis site yet...only a member 4 maybe 10 mins. Or so...this might spark an idea in your head, and your idea works, please share ... I'm an "old dog (LOL)"...well "only" 60.5 y/o...and am still learning...
Take care and help me learn more...K? ...if I can, I'll help U 2...flenif...
You can export from google
You can export from google earth by the location you want to save to My Places (on the right), and then you can export them to a KML file from File--> Save As, and change the file type to KML vs KMZ. KMZ doesn't seem to be very easy to work with. Hope that helps you.

That's pretty much what I'm seeing. These POI editors only take 3 columns; a name, a lat, and a long. Thing is, when you export from Google or Bing, the address is in there as well, which of course contains street, house number, state, city, and sometimes even the phone number. My GPS will display that information if you click on details. I don't want to just import the GPS coordinates and the name, I want the rest of the details as well. The only way I've been able to do it is painfully slow, and that's by opening it in Notepad, and adding those values to the file manually. It is in a CSV type format, so it can easily be manipulated by hand, it is just going to take forever. It's hard enough finding all the locations, let alone manipulating the files afterwards.
Did you try the m column
Did you try the m column format for EPE? That may pull all the data in column 3.

Converting issue
Hi tamorgen,
I understand your desire to transfer more information from GE to your GPS. As far as I know, the TomTom OV2 format does not support more than 3 fields which include lon, lat and poi_name. The poi_name field is limited to 128 characters (if I remember correctly. Could be 64...) which limits the amound of information you can put in it.
It is possible that a newer OV2 format exists with new fields or more information per field. If you have an example of OV2 file with more field information, just email it to me at (turboccc at hotmail dot com) and I will have a closer look. I just need this .OV2 file.
EPE (Extra_POI_Editor) can play with 72 columns of data and merge them in different ways, but if the final format is a simple OV2 file with 3 fields, you are going to lose some data for sure.
If you prove me wrong, I'll be happy to add the extra fields to EPE and we'll be both happy.
Best regards,
Turbo
