red light cameras/speed cameras dc/md/northern va

I am curious. Does anybody know how many of the above POIs are in the data base. I read there are only 467 speed cameras in total. I suspect there are that many alone in DC, MD, and Northern VA.

confused?

Are you confused between SPEED and Red light?

There aren't that many fixed location cameras and a lot of the other areas are serviced by a few mobile units that keep moving.

The current red light file has 3,835 locations. I believe mobile camera setups (eg, Maryland construction zones) are not included. Welcome to POI Factory.

In the latest Speed-Cameras.csv there are, indeed, 467 speed cameras. In the latest Redlight-Cameras.csv, there are 3835 red-light cameras.

Many municipalities use mobile speed cameras which move from place to place over time. Usually they are sent to places where citizens have complained of excessive speed or to where the municipality thinks the average speed has gotten too high (perhaps based on the number of crashes). Since these cameras could be in, say, a hundred locations over the course of a year, it would be a bit of a nightmare for the person trying to rely on their GPS to alert them to an upcoming speed camera. Is the camera going to be there or not?

So, the decision currently is that mobile speed cameras will not be placed in the file. There has been discussion of whether or not semi-permanent speed cameras in, say, construction areas should be added but I believe the current conclusion was to not do so.

Ten of the fixed speed cameras are in my hometown. They were placed in those locations specifically to slow traffic down.

Of course, if one drives the speed limit, whether or not such cameras are included is moot.
