New member. How to have all poi displayed on map?

So I have spent my day off trying to get poi on my nuvi 3790. I am going on a motorcycle trip and fuel is a problem. I need to have all fuel stations to be displayed on the gps so I can see what is comin up. I cannot figure this one out. Maybe someone in the community has some input or advice on what i am missing. Thanks.

easy

Using the Fuel POI pre-loaded in the unit.
Where to?>Point of interest>Fuel

using the POIs downloaded from the Factory
Where to?>Extras>Custom POIs> and choose one of the fuel files you downloaded.

Either one will display the fuel stations near you in a list form, the icon on the map that's another horse.

Ok thanks. So I take it the icons showing on the screen can't be done. What a shame I might have to trade this one in. The listing of stations is good but I will be needed to stop every 100 miles or so for gas and didn't want to stop every time to search for a list. Being on a motorcycle it is had to use the gps while riding.

Alerts

Install the POI's for all the gas station brands you want, set the alert for some distance, like 10000 ft (2 miles) and then it will notify you when you get that close to a station. You will probably have lots of alerts, so you don't want the alert too soon.

I wanted the same thing as you, not having to switch back and forth, and this is the best I could do.

Please be safe.

From the StreetPilot Days...

This was a setting on the old StreetPilots.

You could tell it:
- show gas stations at .5mi scale
- show a certain POI at .2mi scale

It was quite nice. If you favored a particular chain of gas stations you could just have their icons on the map at the normal traveling scale.

With the nüvis you pretty much have to be at 200ft scale to see any icons which is really just: show me the current intersection.

To their credit, most POIs built in have a nice icon (McDonalds, Wendys, etc) but you'll never see them because of the weird scaling/viewing of the icons.

Zoom out and see your Custom POI icons

But you CAN see Custom POI's icons at a multitude of zoom levels -- one technique -- make them TourGuide alerts.

I have written many articles on this and have commented a multitude of times on this website.

Other contributors mention it above.

Try it -- you may be able to use the technique to your advantage.

Perhaps not

I would suggest that you really want to know what is around you WHEN you need gas.

To have icons display you need to be zoomed in to 200/300 feet or so. I have never been able to navigate using the GPS that close. Heck, I can easily see what is 200 feet from me. Well, my GPS actually show more than 200 feet, but you get my point, I hope.

Are you looking for specific gas or any gas?

In any case, I might suggest that you load custom POIs and then pay attention to when it is time to get gas. You could do a Where To > Extras >Custom POIs > Gas and get a list of the 50 gas stations closest to you at this moment. Pick one - get gas.

POI on route

I am a bit off topic, but it would be great if the GPS could display just the POI that are near your current route. I was told it was possible with the 37xx, but I could only see "Full Search" or "Fuzzy Search". When seeing the full list of POIs while close to a big city, sometimes it shows you so much junk in the area that it cannot show the POIs thet are 10 miles away, but directly on your current route.
