There's always some unexpected mystery to nuvis

Greetings,

My nuvi 855 has had some issues from its first use. Some 855 owners have had similar issues while others found the model to be very well behaved, at least after the last firmware update.

One of my issues was fairly frequent auto-reboots on the nuvi--and each reboot substituted the default Jill voice rather than my my alternate TTS voice. Well, with this last map update to 2012.20, I figured I needed the room so I finally deleted the non-English help files and all voice files except American English, Jack/Jill, Karen/Lee, and Emily/Daniel, then installed the new map update. The good news/knock on wood/is that I've not had an auto-reboot or a voice reversion to Jill since making the non-English voice/help deletions.

Unfortunately, there's a bit of good news/bad news after the update for me. In addition to City Navigator in the nuvi (and the new large JCV file on an SD card), the SD card also hold the free Arizona Topo map as it has in the past. In the past, after going into my Map Info page, I could select/deselect either CNNNANT or AZ Topo and my nuvi would remember my choice. Now I find that each time I use my nuvi (even after a mere wake-up from sleep as well as with a battery removal restart), I always find both maps selected and I need to go to the Map Info page and deselect the topo map for normal highway travel etc.

So regardless of how much we learn about our nuvis here and elsewhere, there still seem to be mysterious gremlins doing things that are unexplained--unless some of you have a thought for me.

Get away from Route 66

Acts up way more than the 660 ever did. Told me several times route cannot be calculated, that's with up to date firmware, a 2012 map, and in a city of 4 million. So weird.
