Guess 1490 is gonna be discontinued soon

I just got a flyer alert from Tigerdirect . ca . In it they are selling a refurbished 1490T for $99 CDN. Usually this means they are clearing out stock on soon to be discontinued items.

Not a moment too soon

Not a moment too soon! This is the only way for people not to get burned with a crappy product.

1490 Reason I Didn't Upgrade

I read product reviews from "real" users/owners usually before I buy a gadget or more expensive item. I liked my 255W but thought after 2+yrs maybe it was time to upgrade. The 1490model was the gps I was interested in so I started reading the reviews. Not good. After reading about the various issues I decided that my 255W did what I wanted/needed it to do with zero problems and still working flawlessly. I saved the money and the headaches. I'll upgrade when it bites the big one...or maybe buy a NOS 255W?

OK.....so where the heck am I?

EBAY

I just bought the 1450lmt and worry that these lifetime maps will be discontinued. Maybe I should just sell it on ebay. I get more help here that Garmin!

It rocks.

Lol same boat, pal.
I grabbed that very same model from Tigerdirect($99).
That being said, I think it's a great product. Not sure where all the "hate" stems from.

Just consider...

A lot of the early reviews of the 1490s were critical because they had a firmware bug. They've since fixed that.

I'd say that the 1490 is a pretty nice 5" GPS for $100. It lacks some things like:
- it only has 2GB of internal memory (let the JV discussion begin!)
- the 'detour' is just 'detour' not detour by route or distance
- there's no avoidance of particular roads or areas.

Outside of the 2GB limit, I suspect that most folks won't notice the other deficiencies. If you're just trying to get from A to B (or A to B to C to D - it has multi-point routing) then you're set.

I just gave my unit to my daughter and it was a refurb from after all of the returns and I can't remember it screwing up once.

Welcome to the POI Factory

There are many people on this site that can help you with your 1490. I plan on keeping mine for a long time.

1490

Good thing about 1490 is that many have purchased it and you can find issues been discussed in web forums including here at POI Factory. Overall I thing it's a decent unit that gives you a number of features. Garmin has been actively working on improving the unit. One problem that cannot be fixed is the 2GB memory limit. But there are ways to get around this.

Props.

Most appreciated.
Everything's been sorted out thus far and i purchased the Redlight/Speed cam package from here as well.
There's nothing like feeling up to date whilst supporting a great site such as this.

Considering 2xxx and 3xxx have been out for a while and 4xxx/5xxx(my guess) are about to surface. It's about time for 1xxx and below to go EOL.
