Traveling to Grand Canyon in 40' Motorhome

Does anyone know if I can travel in a 40' Motorhome south on 191 and 160 to get to the Grand Canyon from I70? I have taken 191 south to Moab but I don't remember how the roads were south of Moab. I'm worry about tight switchback turns, steep hills and downgrades. Any information would be appreciated.

Sure

We went that way 3 years ago, but not in motorhome. I suggest after passing through Bluff UT, stay on rte 163 passing through Mexican Hat and Monument Valley. The road you can not get through is 261 between Natural Bridges Park and Mexican Hat.

Thanks for the photo. Is

Thanks for the photo. Is that Moki Dugway on Rt 163? Can I park nearby and drive my tow vehicle through the switchbacks? What's up with Rt 261? Is it worth exploring, I can park my MH and drive my tow vehicle to see the sights.

261

Moki Dugway is on 261. That is the switchbacks road from Mexican Hat to Natural Bridges National Park. It is not for faint of heart. We have been that way two times... Monument Valley on 163 is a must in my opinion. We hired a Navaho guide & his pickup on our first visit. You may use your tow vehicle there also, but on limited roads.
Of course the Grand Canyon is the main event.

We went through there last August and you are right. Not for someone faint of heart. Today I still believe my car said don't me up there again. Remember the sign no left turn. My wife wanted me to turn back. That picture looks just like the one I took. What is. Amazing is once you get to the top how flat it gets. Will be a long time before we forget that climb.

If you've never been there stop at Hole in The Rock, you go right by it on 191 south of Moab. It's amazing what that man did.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Thank You

Thanks for all the suggested sites. Hopefully we can manage with our 40 footer. We plan to park and go.

Hole in the rock

If you stop at the Hole in the rock watch for the parking lot. You can miss it. If you comming form the north then it is first and the Hole is around the curve. If your comming from the south the hole is first the the parking lot. Enjoy.

Moab to Grand Canyon

We traveled this exact route last year.
From Arches down US191 to the junction with US163
Followed US163 to Kayenta and then on US 160 to the junction with US89 past Tuba City. South on US 89 to route 64 to Desert View on the east Rim.
These are not Interstate Highways, but are very nice scenics routes,no steep climbs, no switchbacks.

Driving from Denver to Aspen via route 82 over Independance Pass is another story....
