2012.10 tracking me not...on the road!

OK, got 2012.1 on my 3760 and now it's not tracking my position like it did before. I haven't figured out if it's going to hurt me or not, but my car Icon is now beside my route line, not on it like it should be. It also isn't happening all the time just close to intersections.

Anyone notice it yet, if so what did you do?

Have Not Seen This Issue

I also have a 3760 with 2012.10 map package. I am using the much maligned 4.10 software.

I took a "Sunday Drive" this past weekend over interstates, state roads, county roads, city streets, dirt roads, and even some alleyways and unnamed streets. I experienced the ususal JV and voice-skip issues but nothing like you describe.

I have another road trip planned this afternoon and will watch for anything unusual.

usual suspects...

I don't own this unit, but there is some tricks that are pretty universal to all garmins. Maybe try in this order:

1. Make sure that GPS is set to Automotive or Motorcycle mode. If it has option for Pedestrian and is set to it than it may show your position off road.

2. Try to do reset on unit. Procedure should be described in manual.

3. Try to do hard reset. Just remember to backup favorites, as hard unit resets everything to factory settings. Procedure should be as below (found on internet. I never used 3760, so check if it will work).

Garmin nuvi 3760T reset
On the multi touch screen tap TOOLS > SETTINGS > then tap in the lower right corner icon then tap RESTORE > to RESTORE ALL SETTINGS TO DEFAULT > TAP YES.

If neither of it will help try to contact Garmin customer service.

Been there, done that

Been there, done that, and it didn't fix anything. My voice breaks up. but I think thats related to the software update because before I upgraded she didn't skip. Either Garmin doesn't care or is oblivious!

This new anomaly is probably map related so I'm going to wait it out and then see if Garmin knows anything. I'm also going to re-install the map upgrade this weekend, maybe my install went pair shaped!

Btw, JV works great and on my first route I ran into 2 new ones. I don't know if it's happenstance, but one of the JVs showed the next(quick) turn, not the current one. If it was intentional it was a good idea because I knew what lane to be in before I saw it in reality.

one more thing

Maybe try as well WebUpdater to check for firmware update. Lately Garmin is known for rather badly bugged firmware updates, so it maybe cause of your problem as well. But your unit is still sold, so there is a good chance they fix firmware.

Other than that I'm really out of ideas for now.

I noticed similar behavior

I noticed similar behavior on my 6xx so I think it might be something with the map. For some reason it thought I took the wrong path on a freeway interchange and started to recalculate for no reason. Then it realized I was on the correct road and recalculated again. Perhaps they set the 'error position before recalculating' too low or something.

That's dangerous

Can you actually drive while watching JV images? I once tried to examine the JV when approaching a busy junction and almost caused an accident. Never again…

Good point.

This is a very good point! Driver beware, the initial warning screen when powering on the unit should include "Don't try to read this damn thing in traffic!".

I don't watch them, I glance at them, and IMO thats no more dangerous than talking to someone in the passenger seat. Maybe I'm beating the odds, but being a courier that drives 60,000 miles a year and regularly am able to compensate for other drivers bad driving. From soccer minivan moms, anxious truckers, and commissioned sales dads I've seen it all in my accident free 40 years of driving.

I agree

Vic, I agree with you. I can either glance at the JV on my Nuvi 1450 for a couple of seconds and move gracefully over to the lane I need to be in, or I can try to assimilate overhead signs and maybe have to move over three or four lanes at the last second. I'll take JV every time.

Count

Count me in, I'll take Junction Views as well. Coupled with Lane Assist it really does make life easy, especially in areas you are new to.

If Garmin ever get the bugs out of the 3790's 4.10 firmware it will be even better as the JV and map appear together on the screen with the new split screen junction view support.

In the next few days I'll

In the next few days I'll see if this anomaly is going to hurt me while navigating in the streets of DC. Tall buildings, missing street signs, and under preforming navigational hardware, plus mad maps(sorry, had to go there), might put things over the top for me.

Not that I think it's going to happen, but what if Microsoft's new mobile phone with turn by turn is Garmin? They make their announcement tomorrow the 24th!

Nothing Similar

Nothing similar to your reported car-hopping happened to my 3760 during yesterday's road trip. I travelled a variety of roads and encountered numerous major intersections. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Sorry to hear the issue continues for you. I had hoped you would find a quick and easy solution. I hope there is no problem with your unit but I also hope this does not prove to be a map issue.

Not me, they give me the runs(pun intended)!

But all is well, don't know what did it, I must have had some corrupted data. It's back to the hum-drum for me.

I'm glad it's over

Thanks, I'm glad it's over....

Now on to importing the red light cameras without MS .csv.
