Downgrade Upgrade - what can I do?

Ever since I bought it and through one map upgrade my Nuvi 350 has covered all of Europe including the UK and Ireland. I have just paid for a lifetime upgrade only to find (after purchase) that the upgrade needs more memory than my appliance has available. I have had to remove northern Europe and the UK from my coverage to accommodate the upgrade. So I am not very happy that I have paid for an upgrade which is also a downgrade. I have lost countries I need. There are a few pre-loaded audio books and mp'4's which presumably I can delete but they only take up 50MB ... that's not going to get me out of trouble! Can I extend the memory of my Nuvi or in any way circumvent this problem by installing an empty SD chip in the SD slot. As far as I can see this simply provides a second drive. Can my Nuvi access maps from this and can I upgrade onto this rather than main memory? I am, to say the least, rather disappointed and frustrated by the present situation. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

SD card

will fix your problem. My C330's are ancient by todays standards, and I only get the eastern half of the US on the main memory..I added a 2 gig chip to each (overkill, I know) and each now has the whole map set installed and ready.

Not that I'll ever go to most of the states, but it's nice to know I have em....

Had the same problem, but solved it

here's how:

start by buying an appropriate Sd or microSD card for your machine. Check teh largest size that it'll accept, I'm sure you can do that just fine.

Now for the update: run it, and say you want to save on your device AND on the PC.

I'm sure you'll need to select a smaller area that will fit to your Garmin. No worries, just pick the area you use most frequently.

Now launch MapSource - it should have come with the upgrade. if not, a quick search on this here site and you'll get the appropriate info.

Build yourself a map that will include all of the areas you did NOT lopad on your device. There may be a little work there, adding all and then removing what is on the Garmin.

But I'm sure time is something youll find easily - it comes in packages called Days, which you can then split in Hour, Minutes and even Seconds !

back to the work, though. Give a name to the map you just built, and then save it to the SD / microSD card you've added to your device.

And that's it. Only took me two years to figure it all out, but I have a 205T and the European LTM - and nowadays I can't even reload France and Benelux, which I had preloaded when I bought it!

Next time you'll get on the road, you'll just need to acceot or activate the extra map "on the connected interface" or something like it, and all will be well for ya.

Thanks for the reassuring info

This is good news indeed. Thank you. I shall do what you suggest. I deleted the pre-loaded books and mp4's and using MapInstall was able to just squeeze in the UK without Ireland which has plugged the most needed gap but the SD card will make all the difference.

Thanks

Adding space to 350

If you patch the GPS into your computer and open the drive you can open the program. After you open the program go to voices. open voices and delete all of the languages you don't use. I had the same problem when I upgraded my maps. Garmin told me I might not have enough room to add it all.
After I got rid of the extra languages, I had a lot more room. Added the new maps with room to spare.

Yes,

Yes, deleting all the voice, text, vehicle, etc. files will leave you enough space for the North America maps on the 350. It's a bigger issue with the Europe maps as the map file is a lot larger than the NA version.

yes delete all unneeded voices cars etc will help in clearing up space...

And if you have an SD card....

What I did, was grab a copy of the Voices and most of all the Vehicles folder, and set it on the SD card.

I then used SRF Viewer, browsed the Vehicles, and deleted all those I'm never using. I mean, I DO have a copy "on the Garmin", right ? Even if it's the Garmin's extra card...

Nifty, even if I do say so myself grin
