Anyone doing anything GPS related for Memorial day?

Just curious. I'm avoiding traffic WITHOUT use of my Garmin. Hanging close to home and crashing several BBQs.

Avoiding traffic

Same as with most holidays, staying off the` parkways on Long Island. At least the beaches won't be too busy with the weather a little chilly.
Probably go to Empire City and lose a little (I hope) money to the state.

Kentucky Bourban Trail

We have 9 fun people on 5 Harleys heading from western PA to Franfort Kentucky to spend a few days visiting the Kentucky Bourban Trail distilleries and some other sights. I set up everyone's GPSs with a PHOTO navigation category in their Favorites with all of our stops. I also set up a GPX file for their Extras/Custom POIs with all of our stops with all their tour times, info and gift shop times, everything we need to get around.

Ride and tour during the days and park the 2 wheelers for the evenings and play.

Everyone have a great Memorial Weekend!

It's Air Show Time!

It's air show weekend on Long Island - I would expect Jones Beach to have a big crowd for the air show. I'll be spending the weekend - well, most of the week, actually - at Republic Airport to shoot the participants and aircraft. I may hit the beach on Friday but that's still "up in the air". wink

Hmm

Isn't shooting the participants and aircraft a Federal offense? mrgreen

Jones Beach Air Show

I was looking forward to seeing the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds but they wont be here this year. They have the F-22 Raptor. Its always great seeing Sean D. Tucker on the Oracle plane.

Republic airport is great spot to see so of the show planes staged there ready to fly down to Jones Beach.

Air show at Jones Beach

I live about 10 min from Jones Beach and have found that traffic is usually heavy on those special weekends. Not a lot of ways to get there. Meadowbrook Pkwy, Wantaugh Parkway or Robert Moses Causway (The place they found all the dead bodys and still looking for more, not a good way to go)

Don't expect the F-22. They are having a problem with the plane's oxygen system, and they are restricted from most flying. I doubt they will be cleared to fly in time for the show. This was the Thunderbirds's turn at the show (they alternate years), but they are leaving for their European tour (no, I don't understand it either...)

Republic is definitely the thing to do one day. I'm a photographer at the American Airpower Museum, and I'll be there Saturday & Sunday - I may hit Friday practice at the beach. Almost all of the show aircraft will be parked at or near the museum, so you can get an up-close look at them before or after their show performances.

Ladder at the fence

I usually spend Thursday through Sunday perched on a ladder over the Republic fence over by Home Depot taking pictures, but this year I'll be on my buddy's boat just past the one mile safe line out in the Atlantic on Friday. I'll probably skip the rest of the weekend because I like the jets and there will be a huge lack of them this particular year. sad

I'm geocaching in Vegas

after driving there using my NUVI. I will be using my Magellan around town to find the elusive geocaches I have not found on past trips.

My Memorial Day weekend will be one encounter with GPS after another.

Annual Trip

We'll be headed to Branson on our annual raod trip to visit friends who built a house overlooking the Branson area. Great views and just a little cooler than Dallas area.

All of the rain forcasted earlier in the week is going away quick. Looks like we'll have great riding weather.
